After having spent about two days in Singapore it was time to go to Auckland. I went pretty early to Changi airport and checked in for SQ285 at the SIA early check in counters, got seat 50A. After that I went to T1 viewing mall which was a great place. I saw lots of interesting planes, mostly SIA, MAS, Garuda and Thai but also a SR M11, SV 747 and then all of a sudden three Qantas planes, a 763 coming in from HKG, 744s VH-OJA operating as QF10 LHR-MEL and OJF as QF6 FRA-SYD. Of course when I put my camera away another QF plane landed, this time a SP! Also BA 744 G-BYGG operating BA15.
I soon made my way back to T2 and to the AKL gate and saw 9V-SPJ, one of the newest beautiful Megatops waiting there. Soon I saw the crew arriving and that's quite a sight! The boarding was done very professionally, not like for that Thai plane at BKK, and we pushed back on time for the ten-hour flight to Auckland. The seats were really comfortable with adjustable headrests, footrests and lots of legroom. Plus of course Krisworld which was fantastic. Soon the crew served us champagne and other drinks and gave the menus. We had reached our cruising altitude and were heading towards Perth as the dinner was served. I choce chicken which was excellent. Ice cream was given as a dessert. I asked for a cockpit visit after the service but the F/A said thet their new policy is not to allow cockpit visits plus added about ten times "I'm sorry". When over Perth we headed towards Adelaide and I watched American Beauty on Krisworld. The outstanding crew gave us snack boxes as the Krisworld channels started for the second time.
Soon after the movie ended, we were near ADL and headed towards the Tasman sea and the city of Auckland. A tasty hot breakfast was served and we started our descent to Auckland International. Touched down on time and made our way to the gate, between two other Star Alliance planes, UA 744 N107UA operating UA842 to LAX and an Air NZ 763. Singapore truly is a great way to fly!
After two days in Auckland I continued my trip to Sydney on an Air New Zealand 767-319ER, ZK-NCK. Before that I checked out the viewing terrace in NZ domestic terminal. Amazing place - thanks Bradley for the tips! MAS triple seven was departing for Kuala Lumpur and CX 343 arriver from Hong Kong. Also saw some exotic planes like Polynesian and Aircalin 737s.
Then I made my way back to the international terminal and found out that NZ105 was delayed by about half an hour due to engine problems. That gave me enough time to take some pics of N107UA (yes, again the same plane as two days ago!) departing as UA842.
NZ105 was finallyready for boarding and we took off about 40 mins late. The NZ seats were really comfortable and the interior looked nice. The flight to Kingsford was pretty uneventful. A cold lunch with ice cream as dessert was served. No cockpit visit (company policy). We landed at SYD ten minutes early, I cleared the immigration and met my friend Bradley there. We went to do some spotting at SYD, the beach is really awesome!! Witnessed HS-TGJ (TG 744 with the boat livery) to take off and MP 742F to land there plus lots of Australian planes. Thanks again Bradley!
I really enjoyed my stay in Sydney and liked the city a lot but soon it was time to take UAL to the States. That will be the next report.
