I just got a call from my dad who is at MAD right now watching planes and he says there is a plane off of 35L in the mud. He says its either a B727 or TU-154, my bets are that its a Aeroflot TU-154.

Does anyone have any more info?

There's no rwy 35L at MAD. It has to be either 33L or 36L.

Anyway, thanks for telling!! keep us informed. Hope no one is hurt.

P.S....Mud? how is it possible? it has not rained on the airport area for many days.  Smile

Thats what I told my dad! But he stuck with the mud. He is at the Terminal 2 cafeteria watching this.

Sorry about the runway thing, I am not very good with remembering the names. Its the runway infront of T1/T2/T3.

My dad said he would call back if he saw anything else happeing.

It's runway 33L then.

About the mud...it has to be just dry grass/dust as due to the lack of rain and the high temperatures we have been experiencing these last days there's no way we could see mud at MAD. Anyway if the plane is off the runway we could say it's stuck in any case, as normally it will have to be towed from it's current position.

There were some rain areas yesterday at about 5-6 pm but there was no rain at the airport area...I was there.

I am trying to get hold of my dad, but he isn't picking up his phone.

I'll post an update as soon as I can.

My dad left the airport at 10:15 and the TU-154 was still out on the grass on its belly.

Not the same Aeroflot Tu-154 that ended up on the taxiway at Barcelona, by any chance?  Wink

Aeroflot flight SU299 is scheduled to be an A320, I can't locate any TU5's scheduled to operate into MAD today. And it's not due to arrive until 2215 this evening.

There is an Aeroflot flight operated by the TU-154 sometimes that comes in the morning and leaves early afternoon. I can imagine that this was the flight.

I can't think of any B727s that would be coming into MAD.

Official quote from Madrid Airport's spokeswoman:

"There hasn't been any incident with an aircraft today in our airport."

Next...?

MLG collapse.
Probably due to rolling out of the runway.

On July 7th I flew out of MAD later that day around 23:00 and I saw the plane that my dad was talking about.

It was an ex Iberia B727 in all white. The B727 had no wheels. This was probaly an exercise as HT suggested.

I flew back into MAD on Wednesday and the B727 was still there.

Sorry about this.

There is an exIB 727 sitting on its belly by one of the runways in Barajas. It has been there for a while and I guess it's gonna be there for a long time.
No plane leaving the runway, just a mistake.
Fortunately

Must be some good brakes on that thing.

HAWK21M

It wasn't a TU-154. It was an ex-Iberia B727 that was I guessed being used for drills. It still sits there.
