Etihad Airways will increase the frequency of flights to Bahrain from 4 to 7 a week in September.

The airline will also start new service to 3 destinations in India namely Chennai, Cochin and Trivandrum.

For the winter schedules the airline plans to add service to Brussels, Doha, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Manila, Muscat, Shanghai and Toronto.

The airline has also chosen to name the austrian-born Robert W. Strodel as new CEO......
Strodel used to work with Lufthansa before.

I am assuming they will have to source out some new aircraft for these new routes to India. Any idea on what they might be?

I keep hearing about an Oct. '05 start date for the YYZ service.
Sure would be nice to see yet another new carrier starting up Toronto.
Has the current bilateral been redone to allow for multiple carriers from the UAE and for daily frequencies?
If not wouldn't the arrival by EY effectively shut out EK from the Canadian market?

Cheers,
Kaz

Yes,
we had Etihad today for a menu presentation at our Catering unit in Brussels!
Nice concept they are planning by the way!!

I've heard rumours too that MEA of Lebanon is interested too in a Brussels-USA,Canada flight?

Any insiders farther than me?

I'm curious where in the United States Etihad would serve..I would assum JFK as being their first....

Michigan would be interesting as DTW has a large Arab population stemming back to the 1800's!!

Maybe SFO.....would be nice to see them land here.. yes

Tapping into the Texas oil market? Or the usual DC flight?

DTW is underserved by Airlines from the Mideast. However, the Middle Eastern population in Detroit comes mainly from Lebanon, Iraq and Palestine.

My bet they'll be like EK and only target cities with large Indian/Pakistani populations. So DTW would be after NYC, SFO, ORD, etc. Honestly though I think EY has an even harder sell on the US-India routes than EK as they are just not know. While many try and avoid connecting through the middle east (when other options exists), at least EK has a good reputation already built. EY has to try and build a reputation in a market that is getting very crowded very quickly.
