Recently there was a lengthy thread on delays, customer service and airline responsibilities.

In case anyone is traveling to the EU and does not know it:

If you experience any such problems (denied boarding, cancellations or delays) in flights departing from any EU airport you do have a right for compensation. You get details at any airport or here:
