I apologize if this question has been asked previously.
I was wondering what is the smallest airport that has either scheduled, seasonal or chartered major (UA, NW, KL, AF) air carrier service? I.e does ASE (Aspen) or QBF (Vail) have charter or seasonal international service?
I'm doing a little research project and am in need of this info.

Sorry for the undetailed request.
I'm looking for, generally speaking, US airports that can handle international flights but do so on either a limited or on an on-demand basis. I know this could be a pretty broad request because any airport that has international in it's name is by theory supposed to accomodate an international flight; i.e. GRR, ROC.
What I'm trying to narrow it down to is those airports that see either regular charter or the once a week type of service. I can't think of any but I'm sure they are out there.
Basically an airport that has a international draw but not a high demand.

If we're talking world airports I wonder if some of Australia's airports take the cake.
We have international terminals at:
- Canberra (CBR)
- Newcastle-Williamtown (NTL)
- Sunshine Coast-Maroochydore (MCY)
- Gold Coast-Coolangatta (OOL)
NTL and MCY don't actually have any scheduled international flights but SJ used to fly into NTL and MCY was upgraded with customs facilities for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting some years ago.
And what about DRW?
On the other side of the Tasman I'll bet Palmerston North isn't very big.

If you get a hold of an A/FD for the area in the US that you are looking for, you should be able to see if customs services are available. If it has customs, then it can basically take international traffic. But this would include all public use airports, and you'll be surprised how many GA airports also have international capability. Are you looking for somewhere to fly into yourself?

EWY is a fairly small airport with customs serving a fairly small (allbeit popular tourist) population. Maybe someday we'll see a 20 minute flight to HAV! LOL

Well, its not really that small, but meets all ur requirements.
PVD has daily (a few times i believe) flights to YYZ, but i figure canada and mexico don't really count. So we do have a weekly FRI/SAT flight to the azores, on a A300. (TAP-Air Portugal)

Sandusky Airport (SKY), although not given the title "international", does have customs facilities on field and is considered an international airport of entry. Longest runway is 3500 ft.
If God meant man to fly, He'd have given us bigger wallets.

Quoting ODwyerPW (Reply 10): The airport on the Island of Saba. Definitely the smallest. It's international, because every flight from or to there is from another country.
Incorrect, actually. Flights from SAB are limited to SXM and, I believe, occasional flights to St. Eustatius. But all three are provinces of the same country, the Netherlands Antilles.
I think that St. Miquelon is actually an excellent, excellent guess. Another close one would be whichever airport in Greenland used to get flights from Canada (on First Air.)

For international coaster buffs!! You never know who might want to fly their Cirrus SR 22 in from Canada!
Watertown, NY (ART) and Masseena, NY (MSS) are "international." Their only scheduled service is a two-stop Air Midwest (US Express) B1900 from PIT on a PIT-ART-OGS (Ogdensville?)-MSS routing.. or any combination of that. Probably those would win the title for some of the smallest in terms of total operations in a day (26 total flights a day at MSS)

Anybody knows if there are flights from Pelee Island (Canada) to DTW in winter? I know the lake freezes cutting off ferry services and the locals have to use an airline to get out! Thanks for the data---name of airline, routing, and type of aircraft used.

On a side note, one of the smallest airports ever served by 747s must be DUR. BA used to serve there through JNB (as I discussed in a previous thread) and SQ until recently also sent their 744s there. It has a short runway and a basic international terminal. Something to do with cheap fuel...

Nausori Airport [SUV] in Suva, Fiji Islands. It is a very small airport with just six international departures a week to Auckland, Sydney and Tonga. Largest aircraft that operate in there are Air Pacific's 737-800's and 737-700. I should have taken a photo of it when I was there earlier today.

On the other hand, couple months ago we had a few ANA 744s arrive at ASP on charter flights from Osaka, and ASP is not even an international airport!!!!! (I wonder how the logistics of that one worked). OK so it is a charter but I'm sure ASP is much smaller than DUR.
