A post on FLL's new terminal got me thinking, and remeniscing about old airport terminals, and various memories of them:
1) Obviously, the old Fort Lauderdale terminal...
2) Daytona Beach Regional (replaced around 1990, I spent 3 years there in the early 80's, used to jog at night from ERAU to the terminal and back.)
3) Ontario, California (I worked for PSA in summer of 77)
4) How about cramped Orlando, Florida's terminal off the Beeline Expressway (I started school at DAB just before it closed)
5) Atlanta-Hartsfield (never got to see it on the inside/did see many times before it was torn down from the outside)
6) Charlotte (only saw pictures)
7) Pensacola and Tallahassee (boy were the old places dives)
How about you guys, what memories of the old stomping grounds do you have?

I remember when MCO was the other side of the Air Force base. The "terminal" was pretty much a covered walkway, and you had to wait from time to time while baggage carts crossed thru the "building". Jetways were something they had at other airports. A lot has changed!

Terminal One at YYZ, when it was opened in the 60's it was one of the most advanced terminal buildings at the time, even Paris CDG's terminal building is modeled after it, ther was originaly a plan to build five similar terminals like sattelites on the tarmac connected by underground walkways, then they built T2 and that changed everything.....T1 was great at it's time, today it is in bad shape, but with the move of Air Canada's international ops there in June and the building is getting a major face lift, including brand new check in counters, new FID flat screens, and updated gates, AC is going to squeez a few good years out of that building yet.......

I have many memories of the old terminal in Pensacola, FL. (PNS). Prior to being replaced with a very nice two story terminal with 6 jetways/gates, on
July 19, 1990, Pensacola Regional Airport was really small. As you entered the narrow two lane entance and circled around to the terminal, ticket counter space was at a minimum, as was the drop off area. I use to really love to go around and watch Eastern flights through the, then simple little fence. Of course, when ever the flight, spooled up and made a turn to the right to taxi out, you had to cover the ears. The gate area was very small, about 25 feet wide by, ummm, bout 50 to 60 feet long into the main terminal area. To, board, you had to dodge the rain drops and run to the plane. Boy, those were the days, long gone, but not forgotten. The airport is presently under expansion, where a parking garage was built, three more gates are being added for commuters, enlarged ticketing area, and baggage claim area. The expansion should, effectively handle future growth of the area. Fly Easy, Fly Pensacola Regional Airport.

The old terminal at Crown Point Airport, Tobago, West Indies (TAB) is rooted in my memory. That old "cowshed" as it was dubbed was a tiny building just off the western end of the runway with a small loop of tarmac in front of it. Only domestic operations were handled at TAB at the time; there was a small check-in counter and a cramped seating area for waiting passengers. Outside the terminal the vendors of local delicacies, such as mints, peanut candy, tamarind balls and sesame seed ("bennae") balls sold their wares from small wooden stands. The memories of flying in there for school vacations and meeting Granny still stand strong.
Times changed and with the demands of increased air traffic at TAB a new terminal was built further east in the '80s and opened in 1985. With this terminal and a runway extension have come international traffic and modern amenities. Nonetheless, I still miss the old cowshed, which was demolished shortly after the new terminal opened. Without a doubt, IT had character.

Denver Stapleton had some backlit signs that had been turned around, but you could still see the logo's of Republic, Western, TWA globes, etc. There are also old terminal buildings at HAMburg, Germany and BRUssels, Belgium that you can still walk through.
