Aer Lingus In Offer To Operate New Teminal.

Just read the Irish Times and it said,

"Aer Lingus has suggested that it could operate and finance the new terminal at Dublin Airport rarther than leaving it to the DAA." It also said that Aer Lingus' proposal is belived to have gained some support with key aviation figures. The DAA had refused to comment on the proposal.

If Aer Lingus does end up operating and financing the new terminal what would be the advantages and disadvantages for the terminal and Aer Lingus?

Well O'Leary would have a fit - he offered to do the same and was turned down by the Irish Government.

Aer Lingus had gained more respect with the key aviation figures because they offer long-haul and short-haul out of Dublin but it is not sure if the proposal would have government approval.

When will hear the next Aer Lingus order will it be short-haul aircraft say more A320s or maybe some A319s I doubt A319s because of Aer Lingus' business model. Or will the next order be next year at the earliest for more A330s or A350s.

I don't think ANY A319 looks sweet. I love flying Airbus aircraft and love the A330 especially. But the A319 is one of the most horrible-looking airliners ever. You can slap a lovely shamrock on the tail and say it looks 'sweet,' but you won't get many to agree with you.

Mick O'Leary said he didn't want to see the new terminal run by a union or the DAA, I don't think he said anything about EI running it. The Irish goverment doesn't like him because he gave out about them too much when EI was a state owned airline.

Not pretty sure but if i was a betting man id say four or five(last week in dublin airport there were four boeing 737 parked at the stand).What do you think the chances are of EI ordering Boeing as a longhaul fleet option are??Slim to none? Is airbus a foregone conclusion??

It would almost 100% be Airbus but a 777 would look nice and be nice to fly on but an A340-A350-A330 are the most likely orders.  Smile

Right, point one: the transport minister, Mr. Cullen, has effectively put the kibosh on any airline operating the new terminal. The DAA will operate it, but after five months of messing about, no firm decision has been made as to where it should be. Incredible!

A319s are sweet. Let just leave it at that.

Long haul: I think there is a much better chance here for Boeing than most people realise. The A330 has been good for EI, but the 330-300s are past it (not so much age - they're not that old - but performance limitations in particular). EI has been looking at both the 350 and 789 and I feel that the 789 is likely to be the winner, with Boeing providing 772s as an interim solution. However, if the 777 is particularly successful, they might well stick with 777s and convert the 789 orders to 773s (just bog standard, not ERs). A lot depends on how quickly and effectively it can expand at DUB; part of the problem is the difficulty in getting new routes to the US, but hopefully, a new EU/US deal can be done by the end of the year.

The new EI CEO, Dermot Mannion, due to start next month, has already hinted at Asian routes, but EI will need to beef up its long haul service product quite considerably if EI is to have any success there. There has not been investment in it for some time and crew/staff morale is also an issue.

I completely agree with Kaitak. Everyone seems to think that just because EI went for Airbus as their short haul fleet they shall do the same long haul. If anything I would say that the decision to go with A320, A321s would increase the chances of going for Boeing long haul so as not to be 100% dependent on one supplier.

I think the 787 would be perfect for EI and if Boeing were to offer a few short term 777s that would allow EI to expand now then I can see them taking that option, and perhaps hang on to one or two of their A330s, particularly their 332
