I've had it with this shoestring operation. You just shouldn't see the Pan Am globe flying out Youngstown, Newburgh, Bedford, Trenton, Portsmouth, etc. No offense to the residents of those cities of course. The day I win the powerball (or get a really, really good job) is the day I offer $50 million to Guliford to buy the Pan Am name and logo. I wouldn't tarnish the Pan Am name by flying routes that are more suited to carriers such as Transmeridian, Spirit, etc. I would let the airline RIP but still promote the logo and hopefully generate money to help finally finish the Pan Am documentary project ("On The Wings of Giants"), to build a permanent Pan Am museum in Miami, perhaps restore a B747 in the original livery and put it on display somewhere, etc. The possibilities are endless. Things like this need to get done. If American Airlines can have a gorgeous museum in DFW, then Pan Am deserves a facility at least as nice as that, if not moreso.
Damnit Guliford, why did you have to screw up something with such a storied history as Pan Am?! Mark my word, if I ever hit it big, the Pan Am name will be restored to a high degree of luster, not tarnished as it is today. I've put my dream of starting an airline that will fly MSY-CDG to rest. Pan Am comes first, it's just too important to me.

I really can't answer any of those questions ERJ....this is just something that has to get done. It's like seeing a new TWA being owned by Greyhound Bus Lines!
The Pan Am name is too famous to see its glory get tarnished. I will do everything in my power not to let that happen.

Weren't they originally going to buy the Eastern Name? Probably would have been more fitting, as their operations are in the East. Of course, the EA fans here would object to such a disgracing of the the Eastern name!
But I agree with you that the Pan Am III operations are a joke. At least Pan Am II flew to real former Pan Am airports like JFK.
That's the website for the proposed Pan Am documentary, which is not really getting a lot of funding. So very sad. That just has a ton of potential in my opinion. That would be fully funded instantly if I strike it rich.

If only other people (especially airline execs) had the same passion as you MSYtristar. Respect.
Pan Am (among others) is a legend in the aviaton community, and it's a shame that some people don't treat it with the respect it deserves. If they want to start up a LCC charter carrier, please do, just don't tarnish such a great name.

History has run its course. Pan Am was doomed by poor leadership. I doubt anyone forgot the Pan Am legacy during the five years that the logo wasn't in the air (1991 - 1996). An airline doesn't have to fly again for people to remember what once was. I blame Marty Shugrue for ressurecting the airline with A300's on routes that were the bread and butter of some major carriers, ie, JFK-LAX/MIA, etc. Really, really terrible business decisions. Things only went downhill from there.

The folks behind Pan Am Mk.2 were trying to, but the creditors who were given the name and logos wanted somewhere in seven figures for them, which was very prohibitative considering the shoestring finances they had. They had the opportunity to pick up the PA name at a better price (as in cheaper) and went that way.
As for Guilford, putting the Pan Am name and logos on a railroad and rolling stock is like painting the White House blue, putting candy cane stripes on the Washington Monument, and replacing the Mona Lisa with "Dogs Playing Poker". But since they own the name and trademarks, they can do what they want regardless of what us aviation afficionados think and feel.
Vegas means comedy, tragedy, happiness and sadness all at the same time.

Florida Lotto jackpot: 21 million. I put in my $1 to play tonight. If I win, I will do something aviation related with most of it. I was going to start my own airline, but this might be a better cause at times like this in the industry!

Here's something you don't see everyday...
That was from May, 1988, when they resumed service down here after a three year hiatus. I'll never forget that day. My grandparents took me out to the airport so I could meet the inagural flight, but it was late, so we had to leave. As we were driving down the access road to Interstate 10, the 727 landed right next to us.

Mr. Martin Shugrue was a commercial pilot for Pan Am ... that he wanted Pan Am to start flying again (after he closed Eastern)

Probably 10 years ago we had a fairly regular PanAm charter operating I beleive Memphis to Cancun or somewhere in Mexico. The seemed to change every few months as fair as the carrier operating it was concerned but anyway now was that incarnation of PanAms turn. Since it operated through the gates I worked for my carrier (we worked their bags) I got to know the ground crew that handled it which usually consisted of 1 or 2 men that would show up twice a week in a plain vanilla white van.
I asked the one that appeared most often how they had gotten the PA name and he told me that from what he heard the widow of whomever held the name (now who would that have been?) had something to do with this one and they had gotten it for something like one dollar. I've always wondered about that.

I'm on board. One condition. We have to create a 501c3, and use donated funds to really build a first class museum at the site of the current one. Something large enough where you could bring in some other existing aircraft and put them in a display. Also, the building in Key West which is a Pan Am historical site should also be brought into the fold.
Of course, you could also use the operating certificate to start up another international operation. If United goes sideways, the routes might be up for sale and if you had the money and the PanAm name, then you could conceivably purchase the routes, rename the airline with the name and logo and get Pan Am flying again.
Ah, if pigs could fly...
Then again, you could win Powerball, or MegaMillions...

If Guilford can get the name, with a second-rate entity running 727s (no offense, just they don't have as much money as other entities), I don't think it'll cost too much

To many younger people, it dosen't mean too much more than a curiosity. To older people who remember what PanAm was and the poor excuse of an airline it is, the logo is damaged goods. Leave to the museum.
How about resurrecting National with some modern jets and an updated "Sun King" livery? Now thats more like it for me!
