Qantas-owned budget domestic carrier Jetstar has launched its latest destination, with a daily direct service between Sydney and Ballina Byron.

Jetstar had replaced QantasLink services in Ballina Byron, airline chief executive Alan Joyce said.

"As an established air corridor with significant leisure patronage, the Sydney-Ballina Byron route is a sound fit for Jetstar and our growing domestic network," Mr Joyce said.

Jetstar also trialled the use of wireless broadband for its airline operations during the launch, which Mr Joyce said was a potential new low-cost technology option for the carrier's future regional airport arrangements.
