Hey Topswiss, welcome to a.net!

Lisbon will be a new destination for easyJet. I wonder if and when Lisbon will see additional services  Wink

Are they dropping or reducing services from DTM to other cities or will the new flights be operated with a fourth based aircraft?

Anyway, good news.

Hopefully we should get LON-LIS and LON-HAM.

Will FR respond to U2's LGW-MJV with perhaps GRO-LGW or is LGW not in their sights/

I have done a quick check of their timetables, and EasyJet will be able to offer their winter schedule from DTM with the three aircraft already based there. NCE service will be stopped, and CIA, ALC and PMI are only served on a non-daily basis.

Flight times of the new services are:

DTM-MXP 1125-1250
MXP-DTM 1320-1445

DTM-BCN 1335-1545
BCN-DTM 1620-1835

Can't really say that I am overly excited - there are already plenty of low cost services to both destinations from DUS and CGN.

Yep, remember Go Fly's problems on the STN-LIS route. I was thinking more of LGW-LIS to give TAP a bit of competition, where the lowest fare is about GBP99.

I have just read in the newspaper that easyJet is going to add new routes from GVA to Bournemouth, London-Stansted and Edinburgh.

Someone knows if this is true? It seems to be strange, usually easyJet announces new routes on their website first before the newspaper knows it...

Maybe they mixed up the FlyGlobespan announcement to start GVA-STN?

For that GVA-LIS flight, it's good news. TAP is flying that route and this plane's mostly full (there are a lot of portugese in Switzerland). I guess easyjet will make it profitable, but let's hope TAP doesn't drop the route as AF's route to Nice. Spotting in GVA is nice, but not if there's only the orange planes Big grin

It's not about AIRBUS. it's not about BOEING. It's all about the beauty of FLYING.

No doubt they will.

Finally! It's been in the pipeline for a long time, and since Germania was eaten by DBA with LIS being dropped from their network, it's good to have another LCC now, albeit a different route.

At some point (last year?) a twice-daily U2 flight LIS-LON (don't remember which airport) flight showed up on ANA's website (arrivals/departures), always cancelled, so they must have been very very close to launching that. Maybe they will if their GVA flights do well.

Don't forget Monarch, who recently started flying that route as well for EUR25 oneway. That probably means that IF Easyjet joins the LIS-LON market, they may be inclined to serve LTN or STN rather than LGW.

According to local press this morning, the Portuguese community is the most important one of the foreign communities in the Suisse Romande (French speaking part of Switzerland).

Echoes of people paying up to Chf 700.- for a TAP return flight GVA to LIS or even down to Chf 400.- with LX, I get a strong impression that EZY(a bottom price of Chf 90.-)are guaranteed success way in advance.

When they'll start adding more flights per day, what more proof can we ask for?

Thanks Easyjet!

Slan for now.

Gerry.

GVA has always been one of TP's most profitable routes in Europe. Yields are very high and route is running twice daily. What will likely happen is that Swiss will pull out of this route and codeshare with TAP (seeing that they will both be alliance partners soon).

Other than this, it has often been proven that LCC stimulate markets, so this move might not necessarily be that bad for TAP.

Lisbon airport has signed a contract with easyjet which includes a certain number of flights per day. LGW is part of the contract, just a matter of time till this route is announced.

And yet easyjet has dropped quite a few routes over the years. The difference is they always do it quietly and strangely seem to get away with it.

No, easyJet definately has plans for flights to Stansted. Same for EDI and GLA which have been rumoured for ages. Fact is that easyJet does not like other airlines trying to steal their "home" markets (eg. GVA, LTN,etc...) and has often faught back. easyJet is coming to realize that flyglobespan is a threat not only now but also for the long term.

In terms of this announcement, my guess is it was made by someone at easyjet (vignon?) as it has been spread on TV, radio and newspapers today.

Monarch serve LGW LIS
TAP serves LHR and LGW LIS
BA serves LHR LIS
FR do STN OPO

I believe LIS is getting saturated hence the second airport at Ota. TP CEO Pinto doesn't like the Ota idea though.

Surely Porto cannot be considered the same market as Lisbon. I don't think the market is satured yet. From what I know easy do have plans for some good expansion is Lisbon. Most of this will be using a single daily frequency, enabling Lisbon airport to fill up some unused slots/time periods.

This strangely reminds me of the first year bmibaby flew from EMA to GVA. Only a few days after they announced a daily service, easyJet did the same. To date easyjet fly daily whilst bmibaby is a twice weekly service during the winter.

Let's hope U2 do better on that route than the one's they are currently operating from DTM. That base is a real money loser currently (as opposed to London and Swiss bases).

Where do you have this information from? And do you have any information about the profitability per route?

As it is my nearest airport, I would love to have more routes from there, however it ain't going to happen when it loses money I suppose. I found that the prices on the routes to LTN and CDG are often low, but they are always charing EUR 80+ for the PMI and ALC routes. I suppose easyJet can make money when flying people for 85 euro one-way?
