Is Natiowides 727-100 still flying?

I might be living in South Africa shortly and I would love to get a flight on it while I'm out there.

Even if I can't get on the 721, it would still be nice to fly one of their 722's.

Nationwide's website isn't specific about when their 727's fly. They just say it could be a 727 or a 737.

Does anybody have more info?

Thanks in advance,

varig_dc10.

It was still flying last week when I was doing a tour of JNB. Saw it arrive and depart. Apparently they really only use it as a relief aircraft now when one of their other aircraft is unavailable, or for a few ad-hoc charters.

Exactly. Best is just when you're there to call Nationwide, the 727s tend to be used relatively much on JNB-Durban and JNB-Capetown. They plan a few days ahead and should then be able to tell you if the 721 is being dispatched on a certain route. With 1Time, Kulula etc. a day-roundtrip just to get the 727 shouldn't cost more then about 1000 Rand (ar $120)

I don't think they still oeprate the BAC-111 but if they do, then it si well worth a trip on one of them.

Thanks
Mike

Sorry - Nationwide have completely stopped using the 1-11s now.

Nationwide don't use BAC 1-11's as Cornish has pointed out.

Natiowides 727-95 ZS-NYY is , unfortunately , currently at Lanseria airport. CE don't know what to do with it. I know a Nationwide 737 Captain personally and he tells me CE will probably only use her again in summer here (From about October to about February) mainly on the JNB-LVI route and ocassionly on the JNB-CPT , JNB-GRJ and JNB-DUR routes. Virtually all of CE's routes except Port Elizabeth , East London and their newest route Mpumalanga are operated by 727's.

Anyway , its very easy to get a flight on one of CE's 3 727-200's. NYY will probably be back in service as I've said.

1Time and Kulula don't operate 727's if thats what you mean.

Just checked prices :
1Time and Kulula round trip to CPT , cheapest price one can get is about R600 ($80) , to DUR its around R400($60) at cheapest. Nationwide run for about the same amount (if not about R100 more) and operate 727's and 732's.
Kulula operate MD-80's and a 732 and 734 on these routes and finally 1Time oprate 4 DC-9-32's , 2 MD-82's and 1 recently aquired DC-9-15.

Hope this helped  Smile

Thanks everyone, that's really useful info.

I'll be staying in Jo'burg until April, so I should be able to get on the 721 while I'm down there.
Might also try and get a trip on the 1Time DC-9-15.

thanks agian,

SA006 > Yeah yeah yeah I know 1Time and Kulula use MD's and DC-9s and so forth instead. Last year I was in South Africa and flew deliberately a later flight from Durban to get the 727-200... I just meant to say, as some flights tend to be pricy or full, that 1Time and Kulula make it possible to do the roundtrip if Nationwide is expensive or fully booked or at an unconvenient time on one of the sectors out and back.

Yes thats another way. Take 1Time/Kulula one way and Nationwide back. Could save about R100-R200.
