JAT Airways - What Are They Thinking?

I know that everyone keeps asking about long-haul routes to Canada (with JAT) and the renewal of their fleet. SO far it seems like the information is just bogus all the time. First yes, then maybe, then yes then NO...
Does anyone have any factual information. What do they have on the table? Embraer, 767s, 737s and airbus... Amidst all the recent JAT conversationsm we've had, I honestly cannot see whats going on there anymore. Is the company that corrupt, and are the internal problems in JAT that serious that what needs to be done isn't being looked seriously enough?
I hate to sound like the pesimist, but can we not get things right over there???
Comments, please!!

Also, does anyone have any more info on YU-AMB in France(sold), pictures would be nice...

Indeed, it appears that JAT is slowly turning into one of those "basketcase" airlines. If there not careful, I fear JAT may go the way of Air Afrique!

I heard that many JAT pilots are sitting idle and are becoming a hot commodity in Africa and north-Africa. I understand several are working for Tunisair.

It's normal to have some level of misinformation when the company is being reconstructed big time. All the side activities such as catering, hotels, leasing, maintenance, flight academy, etc., are being separated from Jat Airways. There is a lot of politics involved too, but in the latest interview for the press (Glas Javnosti), Mr. Starcevic (acting Director General) mentioned that Jat is looking at replacing ATRs, and that they would be getting some jets instead (only dry lease, not new ones).

They also plan on leasing newer planes because they incur high costs of maintaining the aging fleet of B733s. The first B733 ever in Europe is Jat's YU-AND. It seems they would be getting somewhat similar planes. All those replaced planes would probably be wet-leased.

They also plan to retire all B722s and DC-9s. The only DC-10 (YU-AMB) left Belgrade for good, and it's at Nimes airport now.

The only thing that Mr. Starcevic mentioned about Canada and the US is that they would have to use some American company's services, because there is a bunch of administration cr*p that still represents a huge problem. Jat would have to dry lease some B767s to fly over the pond, and it would probably happen, but stinky politics still plays an important role. Until then someone else will be flying for Jat.

Forgot one more thing... Maybe all these announcements by Mr. Starcevic actually explain why Jat Airways flies ghost livery planes. Why would they trash money for paint when they plan to overhaul the whole fleet? I like the fact that they actually started worrying about their profitability. That's promising!

JAT is in such dire straits that salvation looks increasingly impossible, and as long as it remains the subject of political rumbling, it is only destined for one thing...  tombstone 

I personally will be very surprised if the carrier survives past the 2nd quarter 2006. How sad.

Yeah, Jat has already shut down a Cafe and a Store here in downtown Belgrade.
It is sad about JatAirways, but I must assume that all of the charter work they do during the summer brings them some money. However, with Air Maxi taking over.. it's not looking good.
