Hi All,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any information regarding the 'Republique du Zaire' 707 parked up at LIS. I first noticed it flying out of Lisbon a few years ago, and a couple of weeks ago our bus to the terminal drove right in front of it. It's a very sad sight.

Does anyone know how this poor old plane came to be at rest at LIS? I know it's an ex-TAP aircraft, but what did it do after leaving TAP, and how did it come to left desolate and neglected in a corner at Lisbon?

Thanks for any info
Paul

Good question... I have seen it there parked for many years... Maybe one of our Portuguese friends can let us know...

Airbus or Boeing - it's all good to me!

I think the plane belonged to Mobutu (or to the government). I guess they never paid what they owed to Lisbon airport and the plane was kept there.

That was the story I heard.

The Convair 880 (or 990, whatever) parked outside the airport has an even more interesting history - and still an interesting function now  Smile

I'm guessing you mean Showgirls?! It's quite an interesting sight sat at the side of the road!
