These appeared recently on the Auckland Airport (AKL) website which may be of interest.....

For a minute I thought it was Brunei, but you can see the letters 'GE' on the nosegear door, which I think is VH-OGE City Of Orange QF 763.

That's right. Plus the yellow goes from the tail down into the rear fuselage "QF style".
Probably something to do with copyright. Smile

Another point is the writing of the type of aircraft is written on the wing whereas the Royal Brunei ones are at the back, under the windows by the rego.

It's all about the destination AND the journey.

LOL, you're joking, right? Not only would a total of zero of the average flying public have ever guessed that that's actually a QF bird, but most of a.netters (myself included) would never have noticed the GE/G5 and associated it with QF either.

Yes, but as a NZ site is targeted mostly at NZ'ers and the general public isn't going to even look at those pics. The only people that would be interested would be NZ aviation go'ers. And I'm sure that may be what they were intended for. Just my opinion anyway.

I know it is an aussie flag, but with such limited detail, how can you 'see' that?

Do you think they're concealing that it's QF, because the AKL authorities would be ashamed that they're giving special attention to an Aussie plane, not an NZ one? Isn't there (or wasn't there) some resentment of QF for doing domestic flights in NZ? I may be wrong, just something I heard once.

Just a thought. I don't know how deep these rivalries actually run.

Any resentment came from the airlines understandably. That wallpaper is from the AKL Airport site rather than an airline and any competitor coming into the country is simply money in the bank for them so I don't think that would be the issue. If that was the case, I think they'd just wait until another airline pulled in or photograph another gate. Smile
