I've worked with corporate and private aircraft for over 10 years. I had a few years with the heavies also. Strangely enough, there is less money in airlines than in private jets, unless you are a heavy captain.

I just found a great link. http://www.ainonline.com/Publication...AA_02/nbaad1_02_gulfstreampg1.html The rebranding goes deeper than simple nomenclature changes, however. Important elements of the redefined models include fuel capacity/range, standard and optional equipment (including avionics), completion flexibility, training, warranty, and maintenance packages and price.
The G550 really is the GV-SP with a new name, but calling the G500 a renamed GV would be incorrect, because it too will pick up some of the improvements slated for the GV-SP. Therefore, both the G550 (nee GV-SP) and G500, are separate, though very similar, derivatives of the GV-SP, which itself is a new iteration of the GV.

Partially true. There were alot of aerodyanmic improvements to the GV to make it the G550
The GVSP is the correct originator of the G550, not the GV.
Sorry, but I was a little confused seeing as how the GV now has 3 derivatives. So I believe that this means that there are paper and support changes, avionic changes, and some minor perfomance changes (no mention of aerodynmic?). However, even if the difference between the GV and G500 is significant (it does not sound like it) why compare an older model (GV)to the G550? Why not compare the the G500 to the G550. It makes much more sense.
