Hey sports fans

I was looking at the various airplane manufacturers and noticed that Gulfstream now makes the G550 instead of the GV. I looked at the pics and see no discernible differences. Can you please help!

The G550 has almost 1000 more nm than the 500. The size and performance specifictations are virtually the same.

GV is shorter than the G550 (See 6 windows versus 7):

They are the same length. The Gulfstream links show that they are both 96 feet and 5 inches long. They are the same size in the interior as well as the exterior.

Yea i know the differences between the G550 and G500. the topic is between GV and G550.

KFLLCFII: Nice on catching the PlaneView cockpit.

On a side note, and easy thing to notice is the massive horizontal stabilizer on the G550.

The 500 is a V!!! They changed all of the numbers from Roman numerals last year.

Partially true. There were alot of aerodyanmic improvements to the GV to make it the G550. These improvements contiuned to make the 550.

Fumanchewd, do you work in the industry?

I've worked with corporate and private aircraft for over 10 years. I had a few years with the heavies also. Strangely enough, there is less money in airlines than in private jets, unless you are a heavy captain. Wow!

I just found a great link.
http://www.ainonline.com/Publication...AA_02/nbaad1_02_gulfstreampg1.html
The rebranding goes deeper than simple nomenclature changes, however. Important elements of the redefined models include fuel capacity/range, standard and optional equipment (including avionics), completion flexibility, training, warranty, and maintenance packages and price.

The G550 really is the GV-SP with a new name, but calling the G500 a renamed GV would be incorrect, because it too will pick up some of the improvements slated for the GV-SP. Therefore, both the G550 (nee GV-SP) and G500, are separate, though very similar, derivatives of the GV-SP, which itself is a new iteration of the GV.

The GVSP is the correct originator of the G550, not the GV.
Sorry, but I was a little confused seeing as how the GV now has 3 derivatives. So I believe that this means that there are paper and support changes, avionic changes, and some minor perfomance changes (no mention of aerodynmic?). However, even if the difference between the GV and G500 is significant (it does not sound like it) why compare an older model (GV)to the G550? Why not compare the the G500 to the G550. It makes much more sense.

So what's the prize? A Gulfstream hat/t-shirt? We should at least get something for our waste of time...
