Hawaiian Airlines walked away with the top award in the Finance Category at the 2005 Airline Strategy Awards Banquet held in London on July 17th. The ceremony was attended by over 200 top Airline executives from around the world, and is sponsored by Airline Business Magazine.

Glad to hear this news. As Richard JF asked, have you heard any more news about expansion? I would think with all the good reports coming from the company they'd be itching to get more planes and expand like their original pre-9/11 plan. Anyone?

Rumors abound about what our management is doing looking for aircraft. They are looking for 767s that are powered by PW engines and they are very rare these days. I know there were four 763s that were repo'ed from UA that we were looking at but I heard an Asian airline snapped them up at a better price then we could offer. I have even heard that we are even looking at 777s and 757s. I personally think that the 777 is too big for our operation and hope the 757 is a reality. I know I dont want to work on it but it would open alot of new cities for HA if we could acquire a small (4 to 6) fleet of 757.

I think there are way too many seats right now between the mainland US and Hawaii. This leads to low yields as everyone drops their prices to fill their aircraft. I know there has been talk about how the Hawaii market is not low yield but our flights (HA) are pretty full this summer and we are just barely making a profit. Fuel prices and low ticket prices contribute to that.

summer is tough for an airline like HA, because despite the more year round nature of modern hawaii, the winter is still higher yield.

But it is an interesting question: will adding new routes just shift traffic around, or create new demand? Would going to JFK decrease loads out of LAX, for example?

I'd just love to see an HA 777, and if they can get some original 777s at a fair price with PW engines and have them covered under the PW mx agreement, it is an efficient plane with major cargo abilities on a 5 hour flight.

Or theoretically, 1 777 could do HNL-LAX-JFK-LAX-HNL every day (no JFK wed for mx in LAX).
