Lufthansa To Quito Or Guayaquil?

I know that this sounds a bit strange first. But we have the following situation:
Lufthansa is operating a daily CCS-service. This is one of the most profitable route in their whole network.
Only a cartain percentage of the passangers stay in Venezuela, the rest continues to Bogota, Quito, Guayaquil, Lima.
Due to a very good SPA ("special prorate agreement") with Aeropostal (VH) most of their passerngers are booked of course on this airline for their onward journey.
Now, a sister company of Lufthansa, Lufthansa Consulting, is about to clean house in Caracas, working there to improve almost everything: procedures, customer service, profitability....

From 15th of September Aeropostal will now cease its daily Guayaquil-Quito route. Due to profitability....LH consulting says  liar .

So in my opinion there are two possibilities: Either LH Consulting is fooling Lufthansa, causing them to loose two out of four services beyond CCS.....or: see topic.

I have been talking to some people that had to deal with Lufthansa Consulting in the past (Gulf Air etc. ) and they say, that the second version is much more likely to happen.

So I say.....watch out Aeropostal...they might be playing with you !! And you are paying for it !

What do you think ?

With two airlines on the route (KLM and Iberia) and the arrival of more players in the MAD-GYE/UIO market I doubt LH will consider GYE or UIO. If GYE and/or UIO would have been a real money maker, LH would have started service to GYE and UIO long ago.

Yes, there you are right.

But this means that - if LH Consulting recommended to cease CCS-GYE-UIO - they are damaging their mother.

On the other hand, if you analize it properly: Iberia has a huge point-to-point market and is taking passengers mainly out of southern and a bit central Europe. Air Europa has almost no own feeders within Europe. Air Madrid has no feeders at all, Lan Ecuador has no feeders at all.
It's only KLM that are serving more or less the same market. And they are from another alliance.
Maybe LH decided not to leave that market to Sky Team ?!?

Airlines, airports or governments don't hire LH Consulting to look after the intrests of LH. I they (LH Consulting) would look after LH intrests I wonder why anyone hires them.

The biggest market by far for GYE and UIO is Spain and it's known that traffic on KL dropped the past few years as the competition in Spain drives fares lower and thus the pax don't need a time consuming detour. The rest of the traffic can be picked up by KL, IB, AA or any other airline.

So do I ! As soon as I am in an alliance with them or there is no conflict of interest I would do so, otherwise not.

I told you about colleagues from other airlines having experience with LH consulting. Especially Gulf Air. LH Consulting left them in a very bad shape ! Look at them now as they are gone ! Maybe too easy and an exception...

Maybe this is just a conspiracy theory. And I hope I am wrong.

LH did fly to Quito and Guayaquil in the late 80s, maybe into the ealry 90s. I dont know why they quit but I'd imagine it was not profitable enough to push their own metal!

Whats are the possibilities of FRA-CCS-UIO...will it even be possible to do it with one aircraft......I mean by the time it makes it back to CCS it's probably going to be very late at night

I know it's very hard to do but I just wanted to throw it out there

It has been discussed to death that LH is not looking at LatAm right now. They have a capacity shortage and all the new aircraft are going to fly to Asia. And, it has also been stated that the top cities in LAtAm to return are BOG and LIM, large markets which are a little underserved, unlike UIO which is very small and has enough service.
