Quoting Pilotdude09 (Thread starter): Do you think there will be an airline that will repalce ansett in the australian market? in the next 10-15 years?
Do you mean purely as a serious competitor to Quantas? Although technically a low fare airline, I would think Virgin Blue has replaced Ansett. I would think Australia would have room for another major national carrier.

There were no 737-300QC's. There were also Fokker 50's.
Virgin Blue has more or less replaced Ansett. Ansett's international route network was the victim of just bad timing coinciding with Asian financial problems: AKL, NAN, DPS, CGK, HKG, KUL, KIX, PVG, SEL, TPE.
This site gives a breakdown of what happened to most of the aircraft.
There are still 2xA32 on lease in Europe but I doubt they will ever return to Australia.
The only remaining aircraft are 10xBae146 only 3 of which have been maintained. So the remained will most likely be scrapped.
The liquidation of remaining assets is now proceeding. There is only one storage building left to sell and the main hangar complex at Tullamarine. A number of offers have now been received for the latter.
It seems likely the longer term staff will miss out on $100m + in entitlements.
To quote Ansett's last ditch promotion, there is absolutely no room for a further domestic airline.

Yes, say if something was to happen to qantas we dont have an airline left this is why in my opinion we need another airline and for competition i believe eventually we may get another one, even virgin blue could become it 10-15 year down the track.
did skywest get the ansett wa fokker 50's and fokker 100's?
