I am not sure if there was a link previously discussing this topic, but here we go....
i was shopping for tickets from DFW to MEX for end of year holidays. It was unbelievable, I locked in a $251 plus tax with Mexicana (purchased thru www.aa.com) for DFW-GDL-MEX on 12/24 and returning 1/02 non-stop MEX-DFW on AA. The DFW-GDL-MEX are operated by MX, the return is a MX flight number but operated with AA metal. When paying for the reservation, they put it on "request" and at that time I knew that maybe there was a pricing error. I just called Mexicana and they said that the reservation has been ticketed. The agent was even surprised about the price and the DFW-GDL new MX's route. I asked him when was the first flight and he searched it. The first flight is mid-August (I can't remember if he said 14th or 17th). The plane is the same that operates the nightly ZCL or MLM service from DFW as follows. It arrives from either ZCL or MLM at 7:00 AM aprox and goes back to GDL at 8:30 AM. The plane is used within Mexico, then this or another plane goes back to DFW at 6PM to arrive around 8:30 and turns around two hours later to either MLM or ZCL. At this time, the charter flights during the day seems to become discontinued as this is for summer contracts only with Funjet. Although a lot of people still fly to beaches thru labor day, I am not sure if this GDL new flight is an additional plane into DFW or substituing the charter flights operated for funjet.
Anyhow, if you are shopping for cheap tickets to either GDL or MEX from DFW, the rate is $251 plus taxes. If you booking thru Mexicana you can only get this price to GDL as MX will quote you a codeshared flight on the DFW-MEX route of $400+. The www.aa.com website however, goes further and quotes you the DFW-MEX via GDL in MX for the same price. Somehow the MX website will only give you AA flights or the ones via MLM or ZCL with high prices and inconvenient schedules.
Any updates on new routes to DFW other than MLM, ZCL, and GDL?
BTW, DFW's New International Terminal D opens for scheduled flights this Saturday 23rd. The first scheduled flight into this terminal will be Mexicana's from either Morelia or Zacatecas. MX gets to inaugurate the terminal D then Korean around noon. The first flight out is a Canadian Air leaving at 6:30 or so AM to Toronto (but it arrives this night but to the old terminal, it will be moved to the new terminal for the inaugural flight out).
