Hi folks...
How many Tristar 500s did Air Canada have, specifically the 193H model?
And where did they go since retirement? The 500 were popular, and only 2 or 3 have been scrapped out of the 50 airframes assembled. All replies appreciated. Regards.

I have a feeling that Air Transat MAY have picked some of them up from AC at one point. Although those have since been dumped by Air Transat in favour of A310's and A330's. Could someone verify this?

Hey,

Here is what i could find:

C-FTNA was Ex- AC
C-FTNB was Ex- AC
C-FTNC was Ex- AC
C-FTNH was Ex- AC

Sorry, they were the only ones i could find from Air Canada.

Others:

C-GTSR was Ex- TAP

I am not sure about the other Air Transat aircraft.

Thanks
Mike

I don't remember the exact numbers of Tristar-500's.
You can check their photos here using registrations
starting C-GAG..
I can guess they were about 5-8 or so and they all
went to Delta AL in the early 90's and landed registrations
between N75..DA and 76..DA.

I hope that helps.

Update!
I just checked the database myself.
There were at least 6 of them.
C-GAGF to C-GAGK.
Somehwrere you could check Lockheed's
L-1011 production list to be exact on
the # of 193H's produced.
I doubt it would exceed 8.

All L-1011's were sure the finest a/c
of their time. Sad we hardly see them
anymore. I have my own fond memories
of C-FTNL/J/I on several flights between
FRA and YYZ. These were -100's though.

AC operated 6 L15's from 1981 to 1990. All 6 went to DL.

Am I mistaken or were several ex-TAP Air Portugal's? Or was that Air Transat's purchase?

Quoting Caribb (Reply 6):

Air Transat got some L-1011's from TAP and AC got a lot from Eastern Airlines.

Thanks
Mike

Thanks for everyone's reply. They are very helpful. I did go to the Lockheed website, but was unable to get detailed answers on specifically how many model 193H were assembled. Lockheed had 18 original, first-tier customers for the Tristar, but 21 different model designations for the 5 Dash series...the -1, -100, -200, -250 & -500. Confusing, isn't it? Regards.

CSTMX c/n 1206 is en route to Manchester from Lisbon right now, this aircraft was new as C-GAGG and then became N765DA. I'm looking forward to seeing it arrive in just under two hours time.

As for the others, CGAGF/H/J/K are all listed as still stored at Victorville (but TriStars still have a habit of escaping from there), while CGAGI became 9QCHC with Hewa Bora after storage at Victorville. All were with Delta.

I was wondering if the L15s were meant to replace DC-8-61s or were they used to supplement 747s on YVR-LHR and other long routes from Western Canada to Europe?

All of Air Canada's L1011's were new from the manufacturer. However, two (fins 501 and 503) were "shared" by EA and AC. AC flew them in the Summer, EA in the Winter.

One was in full AC colours, and interior, year round, and the other was in full EA colours, and interior.

The L1011-1s were used to replace domestic DC-8-61s. The L1011-500s were used primarily on the "Western Arrow" flights, YVR/YYC/YEG to LHR and FRA, as well as the then new LHR-BOM-SIN flights.

On average, more people are killed yearly by falling coconuts (150), than by sharks (10).

Ohh right, thanks. I was actually wondering about that.

Thanks
