I noticed Virgin Atlantic have re-named A340-600 G-VSHY from "Claudia Nine" to "Madam Butterfly". When exactly did it happen? Any idea about the reason? Was it planned to be a temporary name from the beginning?

The name "Claudia Nine" was indeed a temporary name in honor of the supermodel Claudia Schiffer who christened the aircraft (the first A346 for VS). It was purely and simply one of Richard Branson's many marketing gimmicks - "cloud" being much more fitting to be crossed out and overwritten as Claudia. The name lasted about a month before the temporary decal was removed to reveal the permanent name of madam butterfly.
