Sun Country, the formerly all-charter airline based at MSP (turned scheduled airline a la ATA), today unveiled a totally cool new livery (sorry, the link below doesn't include a picture although it was on the front page of the 5/16 Minneapolis Star Tribune Business Section). They are ordering new 2-class 737-800's (with leather first-class seats) to replace their one-class 727's, and going after the business market in MSP (read: going after NW's bread and butter). They're also beefing up their schedule from Milwaukee, Detroit, and Las Vegas. Here's the full story:

I thought about scanning the picture that appeared in today's Minneapolis Star Tribune. I could e-mail it to you if you want. Is there a way I could post the scan here somewhere??? It's a really cool livery!

I just bought the paper. It is awesome. It is mostly blue, white bottom, a orange line through the middle with an all orange sun with the S on the tail. It is going to stick out like a sore thumb, which is a very good thing for SC. It is very awesome!

Wow...very nice! Almost like something BWIA did with their livery. Thanks TWFirst! By the way, I converted the pic to a .jpg file, which made it around 13K, instead of 260K. Would you like it in that format?

boeing727@worldnet.att.net

I just did a trip out to SEA today to pick up our CEO and some others from the Head Office from the unvailing of our new colors. I would like to have it on my computer so I can email to friends and family.

Thanks,
Mike

Looks suspiciously similar to the long defunct Wien airlines. Did anyone else notice this?
Is Sun Country guilty of plagarism here?

How can you say it looks anything like Wien Air? Wein Air was a blue and GOLD, that followed up the tail with their name on the tail.

I love S.C.'s current scheme, and i was afraid they would pull a Delta  . I am really impressed with this new design, it looks EXCELLENT!   I wish they would of used more light blue, and maybe a logo on the engine--all props go to Sun Country for this georgeous new scheme.

I liked their current scheme as well, are their 727's and DC10s going to go into this livery as well or just their 738's? This new scheme is pretty nice though too....

TWFirst, you're absolutely right! But I think he was thanking me for just emailing him the pic in .jpg format...surely not for supplying the actualy pic or scanning it....

Are there any plans for Sun Country to replace its DC-10's.

I like the livery! Blue looks good on airliners (Korean, KLM, etc.). If Sun Country does replace their DC-10s I hope it's with 767-400s.

I agree with 747-600X that the 767-400 would be a good replacement for the DC-10s. It is cheaper than the 777 and is just a little bit smaller than the DC-10 to give SC a higher LF. It also has all the range SC needs.
