This is an application for a different route - the first was FAT-GDL/MEX, and now we have the second BFL-GDL/MEX.

Impressive that BFL will have an international flight when it has SO much trouble maintaining domestic flights (flights to DEN, anyone?). And how about the name? Bakersfield International Airport.

I really hope this works out for all parties!!

I added this link to the FAT thread earlier because many a.neters seem to have interest in discussing both San Joaquin Valley cities being sought for Mexico service.

So beyond the media reports we now officially have:

  • Mexicana already approved for authority on Fresno to Guadalajara, Morelia, Mexico City, Zacatecas, and Leon-El Bajio.
  • Mexiana seeking approval for service from BFL to Mexico City and Guadalajara.
  • AeroMexico seeking approval for service from FAT to Mexico City and Guadalajara, with a Delta codeshare on the flights.

It's all fascinating to watch.

Quoting PanAm747 (Reply 2):
And how about the name? Bakersfield International Airport.

In spite of the BFL code it probably won't happen. The airport is not city operated, it belongs to the county. I'd think they'd be too territorial to use the city name. So how about changing the official name to Meadows Field International or Kern County International.  Wink

Good old, Ghost77, have you thought about a weird MX route to Asia?

What about, if MX traced the Asia route through JFK? Think of if... It implicates a few more miles overall but with two strong markets by themselves. Also, when MX requested entry into JFK it was under the premise for an A340. Just take a fully loaded A340 from MEX to JFK, a hundred passengers and a little cargo to JFK, an the rest all the way to Asia.

Weird, but it might work.

Not sure, you´re right about the slot for the A340, but the route is being planed MEX-TIJ/MXL-Asia; but like you said above, it could work

Yes QA will fly MLM-CUN. Remember that QA code will remain unchanged, but brand and aircrafts changed, Click by MX with F100s to CUN!

Quoting Farmenta (Reply 7):

I was making reference to all MX/QA/Avolar new flights. As for the airport itself, all I know is that they were building new taxiways and expanding the tarmac. Sorry! But if you are interested, SLP airport is expanding! They will growth their runway for B747s operations and they will install and ILS CAT I, new tarmac and more taxiways.

Quoting Adriaticus (Reply 8):

Correct! MX requested high security measures in order to enter the field. Considering TLC's WX they reject the possibility of flying there with the current infrastructure. BTW, do you know if they will need their crews to be trained for CATIII? Is LAX, ORD, JFK CATIII B? or A? or C? So TLC will be a CAT B! Thought it was going to be a CAT C.

Good thing is that they're working and investing a lot of money at TLC. A few days ago I took this picture, unfortunately it was rejected:

Only domestic pilots.

Quoting Anthsaun (Reply 11):

Well... I've heard a lot of things lately. For the moment, flying via LAX to Asia with the A332s. Dunno if that could be possible and if the DOT will give the chance to MX, I've also heard of A340s to Asia via SJD/TIJ/MXL.

That brings up a relevant point to this thread. The Central Valley's Tule Fog plays havoc with operations. BFL is only CATI. FAT is CATIIIB. MX may find a few problems with winters in Bakersfield.
