I have 2 questions about DHL Worldwide Express...
1. Firstly, this may be the biggest joke in the forum but if the letters DHL are an acronym, what do they stand for? I've known about DHL forever but never heard the company referred to by any full name.
2.Can anyone say if the company has any kind of subsidiaries or anything to that effect?
You see, DHL provides daily service from Trinidad with Cessna 208 Caravan (POS-GND-?) and Cessna 402 (POS-GEO) aircrafts. Their ATC call-signs are usually "DHL 402" and "DHL 401" respectively. That's fine...
However, there is also daily service by Falcon 20 or B727-100 jets from Caracas, Venezuela (MTA - POS - BGI - ?) with the full DHL livery, but the ATC call-sign is always "Pensica 321."
(pronounce it with a Spanish accent!)
Initially, I thought that maybe DHL had leased a/c to a Venezuelan company but it now seems unlikely because 1 Falcon 20 and the B721 are Venezuelan registered (YV-876C & YV-846C respectively), another Falcon is US registered (N388AJ) and I've seen photos of DHL a/c with registrations from many different countries. This has led me to wonder if the company (this may not be the proper terms........) "gives out franchises" to different countries in order to ensure that
the majority of world destinations are covered by its service.
I would appreciate any help regarding this.

DHL is named for the three founders of the company: Adrian Dalsey, Larry Lee Hillblom and Robert Lynn...Or DHL! Two are still alive, but don't know which two.

I have the answer to #2.
DHL uses contract carriers alot to fly their cargo. This is why they have the foreign reg#'s. The aircraft are painted in DHL livery mostly. It's just like the Atlas/BA deal were Atlas provides the aircraft and crew (did provide) and the aircraft was painted in the BA livery. I tell you what that 744f that was painted for BA sure was a good looking bird. I hate to see it go.
DHL has formed an alliance called Aerologic. It is formed with it's two partners Lufthansa Air Cargo and the Deutche Post. Both parties have a majority stake in DHL but DHL claims that it will remain independent and not be absorbed into one of the two companies

Hillblom's airplane disappeared while on a flight to some islands North of Saipan in the Northern Marianas Islands. These islands are located about 1500 nm, South of Japan.
Hillblom had a pilot on staff that flew him around, so its believed he was at the controls at the time of the accident. Not Hillblom
If I remember correctly, Hillblom lived on Saipan. I do remember, while I was living on Guam, there was a woman claiming to have given birth to Hillblom's child and she wanted a portion of his estate. This was all over the news in the Northern Marianas back in 1994-95.
As for the type of airplane that was involved - I dont recall, but one can research newspapers of Guam or Saipan and search the archives.
