Shouldn't the second A380 be flying by now? What's going on? Does anybody know the scheduled dates? How late is Airbus?

It's out in the open not yet entirely painted yet.

This Monday, I noticed that MSN 001 made at least 8 take-offs + landings from the Blagnac airport.

It was just going around Toulouse, with landing gears down all the way around, then come back and land, go back to the start of the runway, and take-off.

Training some more test pilots I would think???

Yes, what a sight! I had a great afternoon wathcing her banking just south of my garden as she headed back around toward Toulouse city. A wonderful sight!

As you said the second one is out in the open by the hangars at Aéroconsstellation for a few weeks, with the tail painted in the Airbus colours, but that seems to be about all.

Has the first A380 only flown 8 times since her first flight? I thought she would have done 20-30 flights at least by now?

No the first A380 has made at least 100 flights already, the poster meant it made 8 flights that day alone. We only wish the 2nd (and 3rd, and 4th) would finally join it in the air soon.

Knoxibus,

Was the 2nd aircraft directly affected by the manufacturing problems that have caused the 6-month delay in deliveries?

I recall reading somewhere that the second airframe was being used to test interior fittings and things like that. It could be the second flight test aircraft was further down the production line.

I think (personally) that all this fuss about the delays (unfortunately impacted to the German side, sorry guys but it's true  Sad ) is directly due to the fact that they must have made so many improvements/modifications to MSN 001 all along the test preparations that it is hard to cope with all the mods for the three other A/C at the same time, and implement it in production.

I suspect it's just a LOT of tiny little mods which creates so much trouble, but it looks like there is nothing really major...

Next airframe to fly is supposed to be MSN 004, which will go through major tests (RTOs, extreme weather conditions), along with MSN 001.

MSN 002 & MSN 007 will indeed be cabin fitted before the year end in Hamburg (lots of different fitting/seats makers and IFE systems), and then do the route proving and early long flights. (hope to be one of the first a.netters to fly on this monster, i'll do a trip report  Smile )

Well it all depends but I would not think so. You could see MSN 002 outside the factory, and MSN 001 across the runways at the flight test centre, but they rarely fly on week-ends. However they did fly on 14th of July (Bastille day in France which is a national holyday).

I have seen it flying or doing tests on the odd weekend, but I'd say the chances of seeing her fly at the weekend would be pretty slim... sorry.
