What Do Private Pilots Do?

I am probably going to Florida in the next 6 months to do a JAA private pilots course,after it i dont really know how much flying i can afford to do (a 3 week course).
Can you share a 4 seater with 4 other pilots at a flying club and say for example fly somewhere and back and do 4 landings. sharing the cost of say a 4 hour hire ?
What adventures have any private pilots experienced.e.g flown e-w coast of America? or any others.
