SAA were listed on the left of staralliance.com for a while but then the logo and link disappeared. However on saa.co.za under "About SAA" it is listed as already being a member. I don't really know what's going on.
I heard speculation that the hold up was SAA's codeshares with QF to Australia. Because QF is part of One World. I really hope they finalize it soon because I'm planning a round the world trip with the star alliance around the world fare and being able to fly Brazil->SA->Oz would be much 'cleaner' for my purposes.

I would've thought SAA would be happy to sacrifice the QF codeshare with the potential growth in routes to southeast asia. However I'm interested to see what this might mean for LH in terms of their africa routes - would we see LH metal being replaced with SA codeshares in return for transatlantic and european connections out of FRA? Would this mean no more short hops between CPT and JNB with LH's 744s?

SAA's CEO talked about joining Star Alliance about a month or so ago at the Dulles service launched. It is still being planned. They talked about how they plan on phasing out their partnership with Delta and once again fly to Bangkok and Miami.
