This appeared elsewhere: Continental fell into this group (of creditors filing objections) because it said that on Nov. 24, 2004, US Airways defaulted on its lease payments at New York's LaGuardia Airport, where it subleases space from Continental, according to the document filed Tuesday.
I remember that the US terminal at LGA was originally going to be the CO terminal, but that CO decided to focus on EWR. I thought at that time CO sold the terminal to US. Reading the above, is it that CO still owns the US terminal at LGA but leases it to US?
If so, how long is the lease for, and will the terminal remain a US terminal after the merger with HP?

Quoting STT757 (Reply 1): It's on a long term lease to US Airways, if they default CO can takeover occupancy of the Terminal.
Yea. Exactly.
And it will most likely still stay with US after merger, nothing will change that much at LGA. HP has to stay at JFK for PHX and LAS flights so it will really be US big at LGA and a small op. out of JFK to PHX and LAS.

It's just a technical filing. US defaulted on its prepetition obligations, which CO then had to pay. Upon exiting bankruptcy, when assuming the contract, US will make a cure payment to CO.

Not quite. PANYNJ owns the terminal and leases it to CO, who subleases it to US.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

Does US fully use this terminal?
seems like Delta is bursting at the seams
at LGA and needs more space. I can see
DL evenutally moving into this terminal.

Sort of yes, sort of no. A lot of the operation, excluding the shuttle, is now express. I think there are only three gates or something in the main pier that are mainline. The shuttle pier has some extra space, although all the gates are used sometimes, they are never all being used at once. THe terminal itself has plenty of space, and never really any lines.

Express planes need gates to park at too.
Yeah, but they park 2-3 planes per gate, which is not all that space-efficient, they could fit more. In the last two years, I've taken only one express flight from LGA that actually used a jetway, and all trips I've made have been RJ, mostly Chautaqua and PSA since the evening CLT flight is now PSA. There is definitely space in the shuttle pier though...

I've always wondered why Delta doesn't add another wing to their terminal. It would add some much needed gate space.

I second that. I haven't had to wait on line for security there at all in the past year.

Absolutely correct. I believe the amount is $9 million.

You expecting them to park 5 planes at one gate? Even if they could manage to fit all of them in, can you imagine the pandemonium of having 5 flights depart at one gate at the same time? Not very wise.
