I was outside in my yard around 2pm when I saw some MD-80 come in. At first I just thought it was a Midwest but for some reason it looked like AA. When I came in and checked I saw that it was AA flight 696 from SJC to ORD and it diverted to MKE for some reason. Can anyone tell me why, the weather in O'hare seems fine. Or does it just have to do with congestion? thanks

AA has been running their flights with less fuel on them for the last couple of months, another money saving program. This leads to diversions if there is much ATC delay at all. I had this happen to me last month on a flight ORD-EWR which diverted to BDL. We ended up landing in EWR almost 2 hours late .
Of course, I can't say for sure. But that is my guess what happened in this case also.
