A friend who was supposed to fly to London tonight was told at JNB that the flight was cancelled because "the pilots are on strike", however when I mentioned this to my wife (currently out on a flight) she came back to me later and said that SAAPA (pilots' association) said there is no strike at present. Anyone got any other info?

SA236 has been cancelled, but I am not sure whether it went technical.

They were on strike a week or so ago but we are still getting them into LHR tomorrow, i'll be running the cargo on the first one in tomorrow morning.

That was the cabin crew, the pilots were threatening to strike because they are unhappy with top management and the way the airline is being run.

The flight in question was cancelled because the previous evening, the aircraft (ZS-SAW I think) that would have done the flight was struck by a catering truck at LHR causing some damage.

The airline did not have a replacement aircraft available (as all the B744's are deployed on flights to LHR, LOS and IAD) and the flight was cancelled.
