TAM start selling today it's new flight GIG-GRU-JFK which will be operated by a single A330-200 (TAM will receive the aircraft direct from Airbus on october)

Flights will be operated from GIG and GRU four times per week as JJ8080:
TUE/THR/SAT/SUN
GIG ETD 20:15 *
GRU ETA 21:15
GRU ETD 23:00
JFK ETA 05:30

From JFK, flights will be operated also four times per week, but on sunday,
JJ will operate a daily light flight (which could be very well received by customers as it will be the only one option of daily light from JFK)

MON/WED/FRI - JJ8081
JFK ETD 18:00
GRU ETA 06:30
GRU ETD 07:15 *
GIG ETA 08:15

SAT - JJ8083
JFK ETD 07:30
GRU ETA 20:00
GRU ETD 22:00 *
GIG ETA 22:55

* Probably operated by A320 or F100

With this flight Brazilian airlines will be using 36 weekly frequencies (1/3 of the total they can fly Brazil-US). Varig also has plans to increase GRU-MIA flights from 7 to 13 weekly. Even with this, will be only 42 weekly flights.

UA also announce today in Brazil that the second GRU-IAD is available for booking on the system, and that they still keep high loads on US-Brazil flights.

Rgds,
Felipe

A strange move: JJ will stop code-sharing the AA GRU-JFK flight eff. Nov, 9 and will offer on the days they not operate the non-stop flight, connections thru MIA. Could be a disruption on their partnership ? Hard to preview if Tam will become a member of Sky Team or OneWorld.

It isn't a sign of a weaker partnership, it is a way to maximize revenue.

Many airline partners don't codeshare on certain routes, as logical as it would be, to maximize revenue, like BA/AA on MIA-MAN and SQ/LH on JFK-FRA.

You cannot compare BA/AA bounds to JJ/AA partnership. JJ/AA partnerhip is weak and there is no guarantee it will continue.

I really dont know what is up in the air...very strange move...also note that JJ got yet again closer to AF/KL and ALL JJ flight (including GRU-CDG and PZ-operated flights) now entitle for Flying Blue (AF/KL FF program) miles!!

JJ's decision for OW or Sky will come as a surprise...

Gents,

Leg GIG/GRU will be operated by an A320.

There is a small possibility that the flights extends to GIG with A332, that will depend on loads, as the A320 connection brings to GRU pax to JJ8090, JJ8096 and will bring to JJ8080 and considering that this A320 is JJ8006 to EZE, depending on loads the a332 returns to GIG. But this is still a possibility
This flight to JFK will be operated by the 10th A332 will be received in OCT. Another A332 flying to Ethyhad (PT-MVA) will return on JAN and than JJ8080 will become daily.

Cheers.

Wow, this would be very good news. JJMNGR, i took several times JJ8091 and JJ8006 legs GRU-GIG and GIG-GRU and several times the flight is almost 100% full. Last saturday i saw two first class pax and four biz class taking a F100 from GRU to GIG on early morning JJ8091... and the flight was full at least 10 days before the departure date.
The A330 to GIG could also get some traffic that nowadays need to go thru the busiest CGH-SDU route as JJ offers only 3 flights GRU-GIG or GIG-GRU, and only one in the morning.
Could JJ any day runs JFK-GRU-GIG and during the day, 3 times per week a GIG-MIA ? What do you think JJMNGR, there are any plans to get an int'l flight from GIG ?

Regards,
Felipe

Ref GIG...as I wrote, these are only plans...the main difficulty in flying a widebody between GRU and GIG is the high maintenance costs involved as the A332 is for long haul. When an airline decides to operate a widebody on short flights, this aircrafts will have to stop for maintenance before schedule because of the anticipation of cicles. So this is a possibility yet.

If that happens, this A332 would operate some long domestic flights like FOR or MAO, but don´t think will operate a GIG/MIA because there will be a problem in repositioning this aircraft in GRU in terms of aircraft rotation in the fleet. I think is not that easy.

I forget that the other aircraft will stay in JFK during the day, and not MIA. FOR and MAO could be a good option, specially MAO as TAM can get additional cargo (a strong market at MAO).

Thanks for the reply
