Got deleted but here we go.

Lost as in the TV series. What plane is that prop?

I don't know what plane it is, but I have some friends who were on their honeymoon in Hawaii last year. They rented a car and were driving some off-the-beaten path roads, and all of a sudden they come across this crashed plane. It freaked them out, becuase it looked freshly crashed, but then they found some people .... they told them they were on a TV set for a new show (this was before it even aired).

Turns out, it was Lost. My friend, who isn't an aviation buff, said the plane was "big, like a 747 or something," but as we all know every plane is a 747 to the non-aviation crowd.

"Lose" is not spelled with two o's!!!!

Exactly, I would not want to fly Oceanic Airlines--they have had some bad incidents in recent years!

It is a scrapped DL 1011 that was broken up in Victorville and shipped in pieces along with the engines via ship to Honolulu. As luck would have it, I was on the north side of Oahu and went as far as I could on the east side of the island and they were setting it up. It was on a beautiful beach and I let the security guards know that it was a public beach and they could not deny me access. I walked all around the plane (the main fuselage section was right on the beach) and spent about an hour there. It was really a sight and the main guy said it was going to be used as for a television show called LOST and a year later there it was on television.

In the show itself it is meant to be a 777, according to the "official" fictional Oceanic Air website:

If you think Executive Decision was bad ....

The tail broke off at 40,000', then the nose, (not the wings).

The wreckage landed on a beach (with the engines still running!!!).

Nearly fifty people survived.

The nose landed in a nearby valley, and the pilot survived.

The plane was 1,000 Miles off course.

Need I go on.

Yeah, a 3 engine B-777 (how many of those did Boeing sell? LOL)

If you go to the "official" web site of Oceanic Air, it says "All Flights Cancelled". I wonder why? LOL

BTW, if you noticed, on the episode where they found the Captain and forward section of the airplane, it looked a lot like a DC-8.

It's a magical plane that can fly with it's entire empenage severed from the aircraft. Survivors?! Not on that bird - it should have nosed dived at terminal velocity.
