Firstly, the info:
I'm cruising by the airport and think I see from a distance what appears to be a plane powered by something other than propellers. "It can't be," I say to myself. Well, as I approach, I realize that it's AAY N864GA.

This happens once a month or so, so I wasn't too surprised. But in talking to a certain ACT official, I discovered that this is the inaugaral flight for regularly scheduled service to LAS with a 1x monthly frequency. He assured me that this was not a charter; rather it is the precursor to the proposed 2x weekly service that fell through in earlier negotiations. I hope he is correct, as I would expect him to be. Who knows more?

Secondly, the short rant:
I start getting set up to snap a few. As soon as I take aim, this *insert expletive* parks a tug with a GPU right in front of me full well knowing what I was doing, as I had spoken to her while I was setting up. All was not lost because I could still get a fair nose shot. Again I take aim, and here she comes with an F-ing cart with an S-O-B-ing 4 foot tall road cone on it, and places it perfectly between me and the stairs. AHHHH!

Do you know what happened in the negotiations that had a negative impact to the proposed 2x weekly service?
I had no idea that there was a market for such a flight. Central Texas area residents to Las Vegas and beyond. A new "Niche" market that might have been discovered.

would be nice to see Allegiant expand a little bit more out west, other than the occasional charter I see going into LGB or BUR

Market reasearch suggests that there is a healthy market here for 2x weekly service to LAS(sorry, no link). For quite a while now, Allegiant has had full planes once a month to LAS via charter service. I know there's a big difference in those two figures. Considering CO Connection usually has 4x-6x daily from IAH to ACT, I can see G4 getting a healthy share of pax from the greater Houston area. ACT is also served by AE for DFW, but I highly doubt G4 would gain any ground on WN in that market, but you never know. Also, I think ACT might have been planned as a leg on a flight like MSY-ACT-LAS. In which case they would have so many seats to fill here. God I hope so. I'm sick of Saabs, Saabs, and the occasional Saab. But it's like pizza; even when it's cold it's still pretty good.  Smile

Good morning all,

I dont know what ACT official you talked to, but this WAS a charter for Harrahs going to IFP. G4 was going to announce scheduled service to ACT however the fuel vendor there decided at the last minute to jack up the prices and G4 basically told him to go pound sand. I understand city officials were very unhappy with this vendor. This led to the announcement of scheduled service to SPS instead. Suits me fine. ACT doesnt have enough runway to ensure a non-stop flight anyway. Your loss ACT.

Rgds,

Atc Rick

With WN, CO, and HP serving the Houston-Vegas market, why would anyone fly to ACT to catch a flight to LAS?

Hardly anyone flies WN from the DFW area to LAS, given the Wright Amendment. If fares are good, however, people might drive from the DFW area to ACT for G4's flights. You're competing with AA, HP, and FL, but the drive to Waco isn't bad -- and ACT has free parking.

That's doubtful.

Perhaps one that was misinformed.

Yep.

My mistake.

Prices?

Thanks for y'alls' replies,

With three airlines, including two LCCs, flying HOU-LAS, prices aren't an issue.

I see the Airborne flight from Waco to Austin on Sundays. AUS use to get a daily Allegiant flight from Bullhead City, AZ. They haven't been here that much lately, I believe. Kalitta has been flying in twice daily for the last week or so, and I have no clue why. Does anyone have any info on this? Nice to see that Waco is getting some more traffic!

Actually, no. Allegiant has never had scheduled service out of IFP. Nor daily to AUS. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the powers that be arent thinking about it. Depends upon the competition as well as other factors.
