I recently got to fly on the E170 for the first time. Very nice, comfortable plane. This was my first time flying Chautauqua/Shuttle America and I'm wondering what others experiences have been with this company?
The reason I ask is cause I wasn't really impressed. The flight attendants were very anal, they were nice just anal. I was flying DEN-IAH, the weather was clear and the rides were smooth. I am speculating here, but I think the Captain forgot to turn off the seatbelt sign for the first 1:15 mins. Everytime someone would get up to use the lav, an announcement would be made for them to return to their seat and everybody to observe the seatbelt sign. This happen 4 time that I remember. The seatbelt sign finally came off and it was for the roughest part of the flight. People were always being told to keep their legs out of the aisle. A mother had her 4 year old in her lap while the seat belt sign was off cause she was crying and was told she had to sit in her own seat. It was all explained for safety reasons, which is understandable, but other airlines I been on aren't that anal.
My favorite part was the snack service. My cup was only 2/3 full at best. The girl next to me had a cup full of ice and her cup wasn't even half full.
Did I just get a tight wad crew or is this Chautauqua standard to keep costs down? My guess is their cabin service in coach cost $15 at the most for a full plane.
Any similar or good experiences to share?

I flew Chatauqua/United Express this past weekend... ORD-YUL and YUL-IAD on ERJ-170s. The only thing I noticed was my cup was only 2/3 full... on both flights. It was my first time flying on ERJ-170s... pretty good looking planes.

I've flown UAX/Chatauqua Airlines from MHT-IAD and back, both F/As asked if i wanted the full can, I said yes, and was given it with a smile. Both were on ERJ-145s. I also flew them with USX from PHL-MHT, and was seated in 1A. After the flight attendent announced that there would be a limeted beverage service, she told me I could have any drink I could choose(non-alcoholic) and I requested a sprite, I got a full can. So overall, I like Chatauqua and would fly them again as UAX, USX, or DLC.

I work for the airline in question. I have non-revved on the airline in question. And I'll have to agree, it seemed like I was getting a chunk of ice to drink rather than apple juice. You need to understand, though, that we often recieve bags of ice that are literally big blocks of ice. We do the best we can to break it up as much as possible! We do not have a policy regarding amounts of drinks in cups. If supplies are limited, they may choose to be stingy. Personally, when i perform a service, I prefer to use less ice so more drink will fit in the cup, and sometimes I'll shower the passengers with snacks, but that's just me. I think I'm a pretty awesome flight attendant so if you're lucky, i'll be working one of your flights!
As far as our flight attendants being more anal than average, I will have to disagree. I fly much more than the average person and I have observed different levels of enforcement. I have seen some pretty strict flight attendants on every airline, so it is not fair to suggest that all of our flight attendants at CHQ/S5/RP are excessively strict. And even if they are, they have every right...as the announcement goes, "Federal regulations require passenger compliance with all lighted signs, posted placards, and crewmember instructions." I don't think that is very difficult to understand but apparently many passengers do.

Who flies the ERJ from IND-ORD (30 minute flight) because last March ,an old gal( i assume an old UA flight attendant) worked that cabin like crazy, offering full beverage(i had White wine) and was exceptional on the short flight..come to think of it . may have been Transtates, and perhaps she was an old TWA gal with still plenty of spunk!

My experience is that Chautauqua is the best regional carrier I have flown. Never had any bad service on them, their agents (specifically at Indianapolis) and flight attendants are, from my experience, great, and I have never had a late flight on them. It's a shame that with US Airways having such outstanding regionals as Air Wisconsin and Chautauqua, that they also have the abysmal Mesa in the fold.
