I think it's gotten over 25, but can't remember if the freighter orders need to be counted for that figure.

I heard that Emirates are very impressed by the 2LR and are seriously considering an order but are waiting for all of Boeings claims to be quantified before ordering.

This question would be better asked around Christmastime.

There are orders out there which haven't been booked yet as they are subject to approval and financing, and the Eva Air one may yet be changed to freighter variants if the rumour machine is true. The Air Canada order might also reappear at some stage subject to AC sorting out the problem with pilot contracts.

Here you go though Trex8 covered some of this with his reply;

Booked firm on Boeing's site;

AF - 5 772F (+3 Options)
EVA - 3 772LR Pax
PIA - 2 772LR Pax

Current oustanding LoI's are as follow's;

AI - 5 772LR (+3 Options), Source AI & Boeing
EVA - 10 772F, Source EVA
JET - 6 772LR, Source Jet Airways
QR - Have commited and expect to sign in September though no number known as it's part of an order for "at least" 20 772LR, 772LRF & 773ER

So currently there are 10 firm orders and 21 specified in LoI's excluding QR

The recent cancelled order for 18 777's by AC included 2 772LRF's and an unspecified number of pax 772LR's (up to 13). It seems to be accepted that this order will proceed again in due course, but who knows?

So who is on the likely list?

Loads say an EK order is inevitable. Everyone is talking about QF. Wasn't there talk of SQ? And we're all waiting for AC to solve the labour dispute.

EK have been quite positive on the 772LR when they have spoken publicly of it so we should expect to see an order at the Dubai Airshow.

EY have expressed an interest in the 772F and it wouldn't surprise me if we saw an order from them.

CV we can rule out at the moment as they've gone with the 747AdvF if it's launched this year. If not, they may reconsider the 772F as the 747Adv deal is contingent upon completion by year end.

SQ and QF both have outstanding RFP's which we should know by year end though I feel QF will only option the model if they go with Boeing.

Even though AirNZ are about to receive their first 772ER I feel we may see an order in the next year or two from them for the 772LR. Just my opinion though.

Possibly, but NZ ordering the Trent engine on their other aircraft might be an indicator that they will not go with the 772LR and GE engine. One would have thought that they would have bought GE powered aircraft to cut down on training and common spares.

For a larger carrier this might not be so much of an issue but NZ does not have a large fleet.

FWIW, QR said that of the 20 B777s, "at least 10" would be -300ERs and the remainder would be broken down -200F/200LRs. So, we could probably pencil QR in for something like 6 -200LRs and 4 -200Fs.

Whitehatter,

On the face of it what you're saying makes perfect sense, however NZ have virtually committed themselves to ordering the 773ER, also exclusively GE-powered, eventually as a replacement for their 744s. The RR choice seems to have been some combination of a fantastic deal offered by RR and the opportunity gain experience for the engineering division.

That striks me as perfectly possible.

Look at LH for example. They operate aircraft with a various engine types from all the manufacturers. This is so that Lufthansa Technik gets good experience and know how in maintaining engines from all manufactuers, makes and models. This increases their customer base considerably.

Very clever

I believe NZ will not be overhauling these big engines. They decided against building a new test cell that could accomodate them. Perhaps they have the Trents on a power by the hour lease with RR. Of course they could do the same with GE.
I would imagine that ANZES provides maintenance to all foreign carriers that fly into AKL. Thus they would have the capability to service any of the modern engines.

Did they order the A380 without waiting because it would not have been launched otherwise?
