Why Are Caribbean Airlines Making Little Profits

It seems to me that caribbean routes are highly succesful for american and to some extent eu carriers.These carrier seem to be making huge profits on their routes,so why is it that caribbean airlines such as BWIA and Air Jamaica seem to be struggling to turn profits on the same routes?
