A380 Flying To Germany For The 1st Time, Sat 27th

Airbus confirmed the A380 will fly to Germany for the first time on Saturday, 27th. On the occasion of the "family day" at the Airbus facility at Finkenwerder, the A380 will do one or two fly-bys over the heads of 100,000 expected visitors.

There had been intensive internal discussions about that trip - while the German side was concerned about additional tens of thousands of visitors at Finkenwerder, the French side in Toulouse didn't like the idea of losing further time during the test program.

First landing is planned for end of October or beginning of November.

More than 100,000 spectators are expected for this "Airbus family day" at Hamburg-Finkenwerder, even though only employees and their families as well as invited guests with tickets are admitted.

What a pity! Well, but a fly-by should be equally impressive from the outside anyway.

Guess I'll be heading to XFW this Saturday. Only problem will be to get a good place to spot among the masses, and especially how to get there in the first place.

Outrageous that Airbus send the plane to Germany first, we'll have our wings and engines back and see if it makes it to Hamburg.  Wink

But LHR will get much more A380s in the future than FRA or CDG, so waiting will pay off!

But does anybody know when the A380 will visit the UK for the first time?

Udo, you haven't said whether you'll be tramping up to Finkenwerder for the demo...certainly you can come by a press pass?

I'd love to come there... anyone has any hints how to get there and which postition to take is the cleverest?
Easy to get there by car or train?

There is one problem with airbus. Though their products are an engineering marvel they lack passion, completely.

No train going there, and the bus will probably have problems getting through all the human masses. Best way is probably to go by car, and make the big curve via Neuenfeld to avoid the traffic in Finkenwerd itself.
Hmm, how about a somewhat impromptu a.net meet Big grin ?

Some new info: Reportedly, the police will essentially be closing off Finkenwerder due to the festivities. Here's a map of where the A380 will fly:

The A380 will be arriving at around 3pm. And with the traffic in Finkenwerder, looks I'll be observing the fly-by from the other side of the Elbe, I know a few spots with good views there. More info btw. on radiohamburg.de
