From what I've heard, the Mexican government is trying to persuade airlines to fly to TLC instead of MEX to relieve congestion. Also, I understand there are a few LCCs launching operations from TLC next year. Then I came accross this article, which says that there are 441 corporate aircraft in Mexico, which most , I assume are base at TLC. http://www.ainonline.com/Publication...ABACE04/la_businessaviationp1.html
Is TLC big enough for all this, anybody know how many gates TLC has?

Those numbers of corporate jets are not that reliable. Many exec a/c in Mexico (and I assume in whole Latin America) are registered in US. Half of corporate jets used by Telmex members of the Board have US registration.

Last time I was in TLC it was just for private aircraft, only Aeromar that uses ATR42 was flying there and UPS, Fedex...
Now its growing and I know Magnicharters fly from there to CUN, and few new airlines wants to start operations from there because its very close to Mexico City...
It have only one runway and its very long 4 kms I believe, because the altitude.
I don't remember how many gates he have but 10 years ago they have only one entrance and one exit...

The list is wrong, until March of 2005, Mexico had 498 mexican registered private jets (props and jets)., and that number has increased in the last months, probably we now have around 550-600., that said, Mexico has the largest private aviation after the US. Include the choppers too... around 500, largest fleet of helicopters outside the US.
Brazil is third with 450-500 biz jets and 450 choppers.

My friend is a pilot, he delivers lear jets to customers all over the world. He thinks that of all Latin America, Mexico owns around 60% of all corporate aircraft. That being said, I understand that TLC is the busiest corporate airport in Mexico, and if we add to that all the LCCs starting next year, TLC could exceed its capacity...

Doesn't FedEx use TLC?
On a separate note, there are days that TLC would be more convenient from Periferico/Reforma-Polanco than MEX is! Especially when naked farmers, or naked women from the mountains or other groups are demonstrating!

Every Friday afternoon when that guy's helicopter takes off from his roof... across the alley from my office window... I just want to BEG him to "drop me off" at MEX so I don't have to deal with the Periferico traffic. And now with the hold-up guys robbing cars stopped on the Periferico because of traffic....
I love my 3rd city, but there are times I wish...l.

I like Puebla a hundred times better than Toluca, but my company (Netjets) never sends me there. We fly to Mexico a lot, and I hear a lot of complaining from our passengers about not being able to land at MEX. We explain why we can't land at MEX, but that's not good enough for them.
