I've noticed that lately Allegiant's LAN-SFB flights have been operated on the MD83 (instead of the MD87 as scheduled). When I fly on them next Thursday, will the flight most likely be on an MD83 or MD87? Thanks.

I'm beginning to wonder if G4 is using the MD-87's as test airplanes to see what the traffic is like. Then, they are replaced with higher-capacity MD-83's. I kind of wish they would obtain additional MD-87's. But that's just a personal thought.

The MD-83 is used as a spare, or if it hasn't flown for a few days then they will let one of the 87's sit for a day. Last week one of the 87's was down for maintence so they had to use the 83. It has nothing to do with passenger traffic.

How can you tell whether you are on an 83 or 87?

1) Length and 2) most of their 87's are white and blue, while most of their 83's are all white.

ALPHAOMEGA knows his stuff, Jordan. The MD-87 is very close in size to the DC9-50 that NW has.
safe

AlphaOmega,

Not exactly. Both 87's have the new beautiful paint scheme, and only 2 of the 83's(including the one in Florida) still remain in the old scheme. FYI.
