Great news for LX!

I am a regular traveller with Swiss, and I also have a bmi credit card. Will I be able to use my bmi miles for Swiss Travel Club miles?

I just hope that LH doesn't cut back any more with Swiss. They really need to expand their international network, as they have a superior product and great employees.

I think they could still coperate. The same way TP handled its codeshare with CO: both are still partner airlines. Another example: RG (Star) and AZ (Sky) also codeshare flights GRU-MXP. There are many other examples around...
But I assume that at some time in the future SA will get closer to UA, i.e. see its flights to IAD!

SA has no plans to change the DL relationship for the near/medium future. It would also be foolish for DL to exit the relationship at this time, given the state of their current finances. SA provides significant feed traffic for DL and at pro-rates that are far more favorable to DL than to SA.

It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

LX starts co-operating with TAP and Austrian in october, visit the LX website often as I expect it would not be long before a BD co-op.!

Incorrect. They have already publicly stated they will begin to phase out their Delta partnership when they join Star Alliance. Atlanta service will end, with the likely result being an increase in Dulles service and a return to Miami. They also plan to resume Bangkok. SAA's CEO talked about all of this about two months ago when they launched Dulles.

Why would they return to Miami given Star's tiny presence there?

i'll think you find, this is a bit out of date, most people are aware of swiss and saa joining, but it takes about a year to process everthing, so its looking like spring 06 for swiss, tho not so sure when saa will join, sometime around the early part of 06..

Being an airline employee I don't count on things such as FFP's, onward boarding passes, and multi airline ticketing...... I am usually on point to point stand-by tickets for personal travel. But I am thinking *isn't the Star Alliance getting so big that the relationship between members is getting less and less meaningful* ..... with so many members how can they provide accurate info about one another ..... can the employees of these airlines even remember who all the other member airlines are ? I am part of the *Oneworld* crowd (BA) and it would seem that it is must easier to administor a smaller grouping of fairly formidable carriers and have them work closer together for seamless travel. (before I get bashed I know it isnt always seamless !!! )
Any comments from those that are the Frequent Flyers and experience these *relationships* from a *commercial* and not an *employee* perspective ?

Thanks

BA all the way !!!

Interesting to see TP and LX in the same alliance again. Remember Qualiflyer anyone?! I think One World missed an opportunity with LX. Star keeps growing, One World seems to stuck at the terminal.

After Swiss International to join oneworld airline alliance on 23-sep-2003, came oneworld releases Swiss International Air Lines from its commitment to join the global alliance on 3-jun-2004. It seems SWISS didn't agree with some parts of the BA agreement needed to become a member....

Despite the "reduced" number of airlines, it dont think OW is stuck at all... One shouldn't just compare the numbers of airlines (or you would also have to count all OW regional franchises) but the flights and destinations served.

Star has 16 airlines + 3 so-called regional members + SouthAfrican and Swiss to come (Overall, the member carriers offer more than 15,000 daily flights to 795 destinations in 139 countries)
Skyteam has 9 airlines+ 4 associates to come + Aeroflot and China Southern to come (SkyTeam offers its 343.6 million annual passengers a worldwide system of more than 15,000 daily flights covering all major destinations)
Oneworld has 8 airlines + malev to come (around 600 destinations in 134 countries, more than 8,000 departures a day, carried more than 230 million passengers in 2004)

Oneworld has always said that "will only recruit airlines where they add value both to our customers and to our existing partners" so the numbers are not important while the important numbers (finantial) are OK.
New moves for OW could be LAN affiliates in Argentina and Ecuador (really don't have a clue why they're out) SN Brussels and Mexicana, depending on the selling process
