This afternoon a crowd of more than 100.000 spectators is expected in Hamburg -Finkenwerder to attend several fly-by's of the A380.
Due to heavy workload the aircraft will not land on the Airbus-site but limit it's first appearance abroad to three overflies of the construction site.

It's in German, but there are images on the bottom of the page under "Bilderserie"

I have been there, at the "Landungsbrücken", but I took photos with a non-digital camera, hence I can't post them. But it was an impressive sight to see it do all the turns and low approaches over XFW. Just wish I could have gotten closer to XFW, but work and a resulting rather late departure lead me to avoid the chaotic traffic. But again, it was very impressive when it came in from the south and then flew along our harborside.

But these pictures in the Bilderserie are old ones from TLS and Le Bourget.

In Der Spiegel you can find some more pics from Hamburg:

Click on "Fotostrecke".
Under "Riesenvogel: Der Airbus im Größenvergleich" you can find an interesting flash animation about the A380.

Hi,

I took some pics with my compact digicam and I didn´t edit them, so the quality is not as good as you may expect.

I resized them for the web to 1024x768 !

But you can see them here:

regards, michael

In the online version of the german magazine Stern, there is quote from the german test pilot Wolfgang Absmeier:

"We are 4 decibel more quiet than the Airbus A340-600, the most quiet Widebody yet."

The article further states that this is a reduction of about 50% and means the targets have been reached or even exceeded. I don't know if this is a new information, an interesting one nevertheless.

ciao

Looks like it took some sharp turns and made a very low fly-by with gears extended.

It confirms it behaves like a small plane.

I'm still amazed on how easy it takes turns every time I see it take off.

However last week, it did make a LOT of noise, maybe 'cause the wind brought it towards our building.

No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.

Well to be completely correct, -4dB = 0.63 in linear hence a reduction of 37% of noise.  Wink

-6dB would result in a reduction of 50%.

The wing surface area still amazes me everytime I see it. HUGE! Magnificent aircraft, not beautiful in traditional sense of way, but still a modern marvel.

Thanks for the photos, and I hope to see A380 fly the skies and enjoy success for many many year to come.
