Seems Lufthansa as of January first will begin flying the A333 into IAH. Seems very exciting to me. Get a nice change of scenery here at IAH for once.

Maybe some of the technical geeks can pipe in here, but what are the advantages/disadvantages to bringing in the A330-300 vs the A340-300??

Cargo, passenger, payload issues??

The A333 just doesn't fly as far and with the same payload the A343 can, but pax seats are about the same. Sounds like a good fit for IAH IMO, unless LH needs the extra cargo availability the A343 offers.

It sounds like an adjustment to a different aircraft to improve the economics of the route. Skyteam competition IAH-Europe is relentless, and LH might want to shave costs with a more economical aircraft without losing seats in the market. LH could well move the A340 to more lucrative markets or add frequency somewhere else.

The A 343 bound for IAH is possibly going to be diverted to India as LH is increasing frequencies there for the winter especially to BLR.

A333 has significantly less fuel burn than a A340 and similar capacity.

fuel burn for an A330 would be 59400kg for a A330 and 69900kg for an A340, assuming non stop IAH -FRA

is this a no stop flight to Germany?? seems a little long for a A333, some 4500nm

good to see a change in IAH. I wonder if we will see a KL A332 to replace that 763 by next summer. Too bad LH's loads to Houston weren't good enough to support an A346.

Yes, it is a non-stop flight to Frankfurt. A bit long, but within the range of the A330-300. Other long A330-300 flights: YYC-FRA (4077 nm) by AC, YVR-LHR by AC (4104 nm) and SEA-AMS by NW (4246 nm).

Next flights: YQM-YYZ-YOW v.v. / YQM-CUN v.v. / YQM-YUL-YWG v.v. / YSJ-YYZ-SEA-SFO / SFO-YYZ-YOW-YQM / YQM-YYZ-MUC-TXL /

KLM flies the 744M into IAH too. I have never seen KLM fly the 767 in here. Probably just my days to fly are always the 744M days. Also... I would imagine the A343 is going to be put on a longer haul route... one that the A333 cannot make. That is my only thought.

From what I understand (via the IAH Spotters Club), the LH '330' will be short lived, basically from Dec-Feb.

It should be also be noted that IAH will be seeing AF's 777-300 starting Oct, 30, this info also via the IAH Spotters Club.

the 767 is the second flight that operates KL 3 or 4 times a week in summer beside the daily 744M

LH flies the daily A-340-300 on the FRA-DFW. So do they plan to lift less cargo to IAH than DFW? Doesn't LH currently fly a B-747-400 on the FRA-IAH, because of the additional cargo they don't fly to DFW?

BTW, LH also flys a MD-11F or B-747-200F on the FRA-DFW (stop at JFK) 3X per week.

I wish...!

No, IAH has not seen a scheduled LH 747(200) since the early 90s when the A340 took over the route. LH Cargo has never had flights of any sort into IAH, AFAIK. Rumours have been floating around for years that LH would be returning the 747 back to IAH, but I do not put any stock into those rumours.

Yeah, that was when they were also flying a B-747-200 into DFW, and BA was flying the DC-10-30. Those days are gone. We have had the LH A-340-300 since the mid 1990s. But, we still occasionally get the B-747-200F and also the MD-11F 3 X week.

BA currently flys a B-777-200ER.

Korean flies the B-777-200ER on their winter schedule (just started with that) and the B-747-400 on their summer schedule.

Rumor here is that LH will fly the A-380-800 into DFW in a few years, now that Terminal D is open.

DFW has not started the airfield improvements needed for that airplane, yet.

Is there that much demand between northern Taxes and Germany for an A380? LH has no feed at all in DFW. I really doubt it. So far they not even fly the 747 to DFW.

Don't count on it. I can name fifteen airports that would see a Lufthansa A380 before Dallas ever sees any A380 - JFK, MIA, LAX, ORD, SFO, DEL, BOM, SIN, NRT, PEK, PVG, JNB, GRU, BKK, and HKG - and Lufthansa is only getting fifteen of them.

I assume that there is quite a bit of demand as AA actually flies a 777 on the DFW-FRA route. American 70,71 must do pretty well...would they be in the top 25 of AA's most profitable routes? I know my dad was in F just last week, but there were only 4 other paying customers.

I concur fully. DFW and IAH are waaaaaaaay down on any list (if they are even on a list at all) for any 380 service.
