What happend with all USAir Boeings 727???
In 1989 US had 44 Boeings 727-200. Where they were flying? What routes? Why US get rid of them so early?
I assume that the newest one went to USAirways Shuttle when US bought Trump Shuttle in early 90's

I flew on one on July 19, 1989, from LAX to PIT. It was N766US, a 727-227. It had audio entertainment, but no video. USAir's 727s did not go to the Shuttle. The Shuttle aircraft were inherited from Trump.

Here's a short history of US Airways and the 727.
Then-Allegheny bought 727-100s and 200s in the late 1970's as it began transcontinental routes. The planes served various hub-feeder routes as well as the transcons during the 1980's. I saw them regularly at my hometown of Rochester, New York during these years.
USAir also inherited some 727s from the PSA buyout, the Piedmont buyout, and the Trump Shuttle takeover. By the early 1990s, 722's were a very common sight in the new USAir blue-tail colors. The -100s were retired by this time.
US Airways retired its last non-shuttle 722 in 1996 or 1997, as it had bought 737-400s and turned over its transcon routes to 757s, 733s, and 762's. The shuttle routes are now run mostly by A320's, the new standard plane for these routes, and 733's.
There are some US Airways 722's left, on the shuttle routes; I saw one at LGA about two months ago. But they're a vanishing species, so if you want to shoot one go to LGA or BOS, where they are still used, soon.

I know one of the last USAir mainline 727-200 routes was from Roanoke to Pittsburgh. This seemed very odd to me when they could have been used on longer, more productive routes, but that is how it was.

I see them all the time at DCA, standing near US hangar. In fact, I saw one today. I was trying get reg numbers but it was too far and rainy and I didnt get it.
I love that bird and I never saw one (on my eyes, live) but I have around 75% pictures of USAir Shuttle B727-200 on this site, do little research and you will see them. I've been on them many many times as I was flying to LGA from DCA and back.
Also I bought Life Vest from USAir B727-200 (flea market in Waldorf PG county) it had tag Hoover Industries Inflatables
under that it was written USAir B727-200 series, Insp. Date JUL 1990. Reinsp. Date JUL 1995.
But when I opened that ( I took it out from the plastic bag) I saw huge letters PAN AM. And I was wondering how the heck it was in USAir aircraft?
Anyone have any clue how to get to the end of this story?

Thanks for catching me on the presence of US 722s at DCA--I go by the airport a couple of times a week on the parkway and haven't seen one for a couple of months, even by the hangar. As long as US has a plane it'll turn up at DCA. :+)
You're right that DCA-IAD-BWI are all great airports, and they complement each other well in airlines and aircraft types for spotting. JFK doesn't have an exclusive on Asian and African carriers, for instance, in the Northeast anymore.
I sure miss the Smithsonian Aviation shop at BWI though. Here's hoping that they reopen it.

I just read some disheartening news that the Smithsonian Shop was closed at BWI? Lack of customers perhaps? Very sad considering that my hometown BWI airport had one of the world's best viewing lounges. Many of my Shabak diecast's came from there....

BWI information told me that the Smithsonian shop closed this past winter. It always had a much better selection of schabak/ wooster/ long prosper etc than does the National Air & Space Museum shop in DC. At better prices than a certain catalog shop I can think of.
There is a cart-vendor shop on the ticketing level of DCA now, near Continental and Delta, and of course the vendor at Dulles. I had to get my new Air Canada Wooster A330 from the catalog place though.

In all of my wordly travels, I've always thought of BWI as my favorite airport. In fact I was gonna fly their tomorrow to try a UAL DC-10, which I've never been on before.
I currently live in exteme SW Mississippi and work at the New Orleans airport but there isn't a place around here that carries any Shabak, Dragon's, or Gemini's. I've gotten a few Dragon's from work, but that distributor went out of business now.

At Dulles there is no longer vendor with models. THEY OPEN A STORE there!!! last saturday I went there to get USAir B767 USAir B737-300 and USAirways B767 models. They have big model selection (but only very few of USAirways/USAir) Try that store.

Where at in IAD is it. I remember a kiosk near the mobile loung gates in the main terminal, but not the store. Do they have Dragon's and Gemini's? Reasonable prices? There is a huge store in the Airport Hilton at ORD....but with prices about 30% or more than almost anywhere else.

To be honest I didnt check the prices on most of the models. Im up to Wooster and it cost only $19.95 .
This store is easy to find. Is on the upper level behind ticket counters (exactly in the middle of the terminal).
But prices there are better then at National Air & Space Museum. I paid $3 for parking but I could see Korean Air B747-400 taxi by + ANA B747-400/.
