As planned Emirates will upgrade its daily EK055/56 service to DUS to a B777-300ER from the current A340-300 from 1 September. The route is scheduled to operate with a "low density" ie. 3 class config. aircraft. However spotters will get a mix of 777s during the first couple of days - I think this is due to a slight delay in the delivery of the next B77W A6-EBE. Here are the details.
On 1, 2 and 8 September the flight will be operated by high density B77W, whilst on 3 September it will operate using a B777-200 high density.
Remaining days will be the scheduled B77W low density.
Just to clarify, the HD config. acft are A6-EBA and A6-EBD while the the LD config. acft are A6-EBC, A6-EBB and A6-EBE. Currently A6-EBD is the only 77W sporting the FIFA World Cup 2006 sticker.

Hi.
Is it really true. Why should they operate 773ER when they could use the 773 as well. It has the same size and the longer range of the 773ER isn't required for DXB-DUS as I think.
Georg.

Yes A6-EBD is a high density (2 class). Actually what has happened is that the Fri BKK/SYD/AKL departure ex-DXB is scheduled to be a B777-200 low density and due to a combination of high loads and lack of available B772s they often substitute with a 2-class B77W. On the later point, Emirates is already one B772 LD short because the aircraft are being totally refurbished and one acft is in the hangar for a period of upto 6-8 weeks. So in many ways EBD for its first year will operate as a "sub" until all the 772 LDs are refurbished. To date A6-EMG and A6-EMH have been done and A6-EMI is currently in the hangar.

FRA is set to be upgraded to a mixture of B772/B773 by December on the morning flight. In Mar 06 - the morning MUC flight will be upgraded to B772 daily ex-Sun. The Sun flight will operate with 332. German routes slated for A380 operations are FRA and MUC (this one will be post 2010).

Yes the 773A can make DUS no problem. However DUS has high cargo loads and the B77W doesnt carry significant limitations on full cargo and pax loads on very hot temperatures out of DXB. Often LHR, LGW B773As have to leave cargo behind because pax loads are high. The advantage here is that there are multiple daily flights on these routes so the cargo can still be accomodated.

3 B772s are HD (2 class config) - A6-EMD/EME/EMF, 1 B772ER is HD - A6-EML
Yes all B772/B772ERs are being refurbished. A6-EMD/EME/EMF/EMG/EMH are done. A6-EMI is currently in the hangar and probably comes out end of Sept. at the latest.
A6-EMD isnt going to be retired anytime soon. The acft was refurbished just under a year ago after which Emirates sold it and leased it back for a 5 year period. So think of 2009 as a prospective retirement date.
Possibly in 2006/7 on a scheduled basis - Emirates is currently finalising the network plan (new destinations, frequency increases, aircraft upgrades etc.). Details should emerge soon. BHX short runway is posing a bottleneck to expansion - so using a larger aircraft becomes a tricky one after the B772. B77W has more powerful engines so could offer a relative advantage above the standard B773 which does carry payload limitations when it ops to BHX. Therefore, for further expansion you may even see a 3rd daily - but i think this is still a way off.

In this case, the A346 should be the aircraft for the future on this route. On a
standard day at MTOW, the A345 and the A346 need only about 2400 meters of runway while the A342/343 and all versions of the B777 need about 3000
meters. At least this was stated in the german FLUGREVUE.

Quoting Brasuca (Reply 13): What are the kind of pax focused by EK in DUS?
Everyone! Business travelers, tourists, passengers who use DXB as a transfer airport on the way to Asia, Australia, Africa, and islands in the Indian Ocean.

Will EK put 345-type seating in the F/J cabins of the 777s?
J on the 777s is pretty average. 1st is OK... but the 345 is sweet! Those huge TVs are amazing in J on the 345 (but the seats don't recline very comfortably)
