India's New LCC's?

How many of the new generation LCC's have taken off in India lately? I know there has been a lot of hype about carriers like Kingfisher and Spice Jet. Anyone have any info about how Kingfisher has been doing or what the overall route structres, schedules, and timelines of these carriers are?

Apart from Kingfisher and spicejet, Air Deccan has been running operations.

Go Air is ready for launch in some months. Other host of LCCs, Magic Air, Paramount, Indigo, Visa Air are due for take off in the near future....

yes, u r correct. Its backed by the Wadias. Infact the elder son I guess Jeh Wadia would be incharge of the startup. The younger one Ness Wadia has been spared I guess to spend more time with gf Preity Zinta...

the point is how long will they continue to pay the highest. Moreover, don't you think they have too few planes coming. How on Earth are they going to compete with likes of Air Deccan and Kinfisher who will have much larger fleet and economies of scale.  Sad

Its a Gradual Expansion which is Ideal.Unline what AD did.
About salaries.Due to shortage of Pilots & AMEs in the country.The Airlines have to pay high to get people in.No choice.
When the Supply Increases Demand will drop with Salaries Everywhere.
Time will tell.

sounds good! as long as limited fleet size does not come in way of their operations. Also it should not seen as if they're running out of steam.
Currently Indian Aviation market is great lab where all sorts of business models are being worked out. Mostly borrowed from America, to see which one fits in best. Those who are most consistent in terms of quality and on time service shall survive. So the Great Indian Aviation Drama unfolds in Broadway of Bombay. Lets see if turns out to be Shakespearean tragedy or comedy.

HAWK - I agree that the pilot shortage is certainly a serious issue!!
Already Jet, AIX and others are "bending" the "no foreign FO" rule by using a foreign Capt in the LHS and a foreign instructor/TRE/TRI in the right seat.

Re: Supply: Some of my friends are saying that flying schools in India don't have any CFI/CFII available because they've all joined the airlines.

So either Indian pilots will get trained in Australia/US etc and return, or the Govt will relax foreign pilot rules. Both situations are worrisome:

The low-hour pilots at 9W, S2, AD are disasters in waiting. With the DGCA reducing the hour requirement for CPL, there are 250 hour guys in RHS of 737NG/A320, paired with 21 yr old Capts.

A lot of the foreign pilots showing up are not necessarily from English speaking countries - and while Indian accents are hard for some native English speakers, it must be much worse for non-native speakers.

The Salaries are Tempting for them too.
I think Epats Short term is the only solution until Locals are qualified which could take upto 2007,considering the Amt of growth.
