Well this year in summer UA started the second daily Star-Alliance flight between ORD and MUC, anyone has some information how is/was the flight performing on load-factor and yield?

Also it would be intresting how are they doing with the IAD service after LH entered the market and is offering the second daily Star-Alliance flight to IAD (A340-300). At least it was positive that they didnt changed the route again to the B767 from the B777 (at least it was planed.)

intresting to get some informations from you.

regards
Avianca

I was actually at the gate today during the boarding of UA906 ORD-MUC and the flight was pretty packed. First and Business were 100% full and there were a couple of seats left in economy. Anyway, looks like the flight will continue year-round, so it seems to be doing pretty well. I know that when it first started in June that they were considering flying only during the summer months. I'm planning on non-reving on that flight in three weeks, so I hope for just one day that it's not doing too well  Wink. UA LF on the route is strong (sorry, I can't get more specific cause I dont want to get scolded for giving away too much info.) LH's MUC flights out of ORD have remained VERY strong this summer even with the new UA flight. I believe LH's new MUC-IAD flight will be going down to 5 days a week for the winter schedule.

I flew on this one on May 28/29 (IAD-MUC) and the flight was full. We were offered 600€ a person+hotel costs for flying the next morning via FRA. As we had paid only 750€ for our MUC-JFK-SFO-LAS-IAD-MUC flight with Uni(TED) and LH, it would have been stunning to pay only 150€ for such a trip, but unfortunately I had to go to school on 30th so we couldn´t accept.

Exceptions confirm the rule.

Its a little early to tell as the new flight has not operated even for a full quarter yet, however off the bat the numbers for both IAD and ORD are extremely comparable. (within 1% point to date)

In general load factors and yields this summer have been terrific for most airlines across the Atlantic. Munich's Oktoberfest festivities should help carry both flights well into the fall.

Overall the new ORD-MUC was a pretty low risk route for UA. Being a hub-hub flight its generally not to difficult to feed.

are you sure? as normally always the yield on the north-atlantic in summer are much more better than in winter (all ticket prices are much more higher in summer) were I agree is that they have less turnover on cargo as in summe is much more space aviable on the market compared to less cargo in the market....

Hi CyberUAL,

I work for LH in Chicago, but since we have anti-trust with UA (as I'm sure you already know) we have a good handle of how the UA routes doing.

Year over year yield improvements across the Atlantic have been as staggering as +10% on some routes.
There has been a definite reduction in need to sell and availability of lower fare bucket and thus ability market of more premium economy fares types.
With only marginal increases in capacity, demand this summer is outstripping capacity in some markets.
You will see impressive quarterly load factors being reported by most airlines that ply the Atlantic that report their regional numbers separately.

I think it's a nice thing!
My mother works for UA in Brussels and they work literally next to the LH people!
My mother often says the LH people have a certain straight forward style of doing business, but the co-operation is great!

Oh yes, welcome to the forum!

I would be more than happy to upgrade you to C with a ZED fare, but unfortunately I don't work at the airport. I work in our business office in the city. The Chicago station employees are really good about taking care of OAL employees (Especially UA employees) by upgrading them. I haven't had much experience with the ZED fares though. I was talking to someone at United yesterday, and he said that a C ZED fare to Europe was only about $60. I sure hope that's true.

I love the A340-600s too! Once while flying ORD-FRA I flew ORD-SFO-MUC-FRA just so I could get on one of those. It was worth it.

Hi Swisser,

Yes, the cooperation is great. We're constantly trying to stenghten our ties and do as many events together as possible. UA has always treated us sooooo well whenever we fly on them for business or personal trips and we really appreciate it. Together in Chicago we have seven flights a day to Germany, so the cooperation has really worked well.

Oh, and thanks for the nice welcome from you, StevenUlh777 and Avianca!

Yes, I think he's right, I had a conversation with my mother about that a few weeks ago and I remember such a price too.

We can say the same here in europe about LH for our trips!
