After only having few airlines in Venezuela (around 12), we will soon have another new one. The shining name will be "KavoK". Maybe someone here can explain us the meaning of that name - if there is one.

Acording to press reports they will start operations at Oro Negro ("black gold") airport near Cabimas on the Eastern shores of Maracaibo Lake.

The area has about 800.000 inhabitants in the cities of Cabimas, Lagunillas, Ciudad Ojeda and others. It is a very busy Oil area.

Avior stopped operations in July 2002 at that airport. But now - of course - they want to restart.

The airport authorities are also planning to extend the runway in order to be able to welcome bigger planes.

KavoK intends to start with Jetstream, Beach 1900 and/or Embraer (I guess 120).

The intention to start CBS is very good, as the travel time from there to MAR airport is around 1 hour. And the market is there.

I'd say a misspelling of CAVOK Clouds And Visibility OK, perfect weather to fly  Wink

But definitely, this is not what we need. We do need good airlines, providing jobs in the aviation industry, but many little ones are not the solution.

Agree. Too many airlines, too many bad airlines. Anyway, I wish them good luck.

(It is funny how the article talks about planes "EMBRA AIR"... LOL)

Are you sure is KAVOK?
Isn't there in Venezuela a place called KAVAK? near the Angel Falls? Maybe it is some kind of indigenous name, no?

There is another nice pic of Oro Negro:

Correct. It's a campsite located in the skirts of the Auyantepui (Devil's mountain in Pemon language). This mountain is famous because of the Angel Falls. The area belongs to Canaima National Park, or what is called La Gran Sabana.

I agree. We need to come back to the status of the 80s: One VIASA for international flights, Aeropostal and Avensa for domestic an regional. In addition an Avior or LAI for domestic regional routes would be OK.

This is good news for Venezuela, more competition for a coutnry with an underserved aviation market.

I do not understand why not CONVIASA? Id rather CONVIASA than NOVIASA.

Because what we (at least I do) would like to see for Venezuela is a strong well put airline with excellent service, long haul aircraft with good performance, very competitive and with a definitive long term strategy as it was VIASA. We can't attribute any of those characteristics to Conviasa (yet).
