Gulf traveller will have too much competition from EK and QTR. Weren't Jet Airways thinking of a BHX service (reported here recently)?

Meanwhile, the private sector airline has sought Government permission to operate a daily flight to Singapore from Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai. It also plans to operate a three-times-a-week flight on the Delhi-Amritsar-Birmingham sector.

"We plan to operate flights to Singapore and Birmingham from the forthcoming winter season. The airline plans to utilise a Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Singapore, while the Airbus A-340 aircraft will be used to operate to Birmingham," Luethi said.

Yes, on the exact same route as AI (Except YYZ I think) and on opposite days to AI's service! I don't think a A340 can land and take-off at BHX, so one of their future 332's might be a better option! (Shame, I wan't BHX to get a A340) Seems strange to operate the exact same route, at least they should fly from BOM?

I've also heard that AI wan't to go daily at BHX!

I've also heard that AA are considering a move back to BHX (Very much doubt it though  Sad)

Also I would'nt be suprised if QR started services from DOH using a 332 next year, they still have 332's on order so can use one to BHX!

Also EY has shown intrest in BHX, maybe a 332 service from AUH!

Gulf Traveller were not able to start ops at BHX, they pulled out due to EK and other stronger airlines showing intrest at BHX! (They planned to start last April)

I've also heard that Mahan air is looking at adding more services to BHX, they have just opened a UK HQ in BHX!

I'll keep a look out for any other BHX news!

Rob!  Smile

Just heard that Jet will be flying to the subcontinent and will have special fares.....Sorry to see that CO have dropped some of the second services. They only were due to operate four days a week but fancy not operating from BHX to EWR two services on a Friday?? I do know they have reduced the availability of the lower fare seats and now we have to book London/Manchester for the shopping deals...Not good for Birmingham who seem more inerested in the "ethnic" Market above all

Don't doubt it. A daily 752 from JFK is definitley within the realm of possibility.

Their proposed modifications to extend the range of their 757s also makes ORD/MIA-BHX possible with the jets, though that is unlikely.

From a purely selfish point of view a return of AA's 767 service to ORD would be very welcome, along with 777 service to both DFW and PDX ( I wish ).

This is their winter service they will go twice daily again from March 2006.

I would love to see the A340 at BHX but with the runway size it doesn't seem possible.

Thanks VSA346.

Would they use two 777s?

Quoting B742 (Reply 5):

I don’t think this is possible due two EK domination at BHX.
Great info B742
Would Air Jamaica show any interest in Birmingham when they get their 777s?

Doubt it. They fly from Heathrow and Manchester? (Or have they dropped that). As Birmingham is somewhat in between and can be reached within a couple of hours, i don't think Birmingham would be ideal for them, as, unlike Emirates and the like (who do serve LHR, LGW, BHX and MAN), they aren't going to have that many aircraft. How many do they have on order, out of interest?

thumbsup  Gets my vote. BHX - Newark service sucks as the layover is about 4 hrs for a connection to PHX.

I'd love to see an increase in flights from Asia. I much prefer to fly into BHX than LHR and maybe some 787-8/9s in the future will open up potential airline options.

Heard 9W management was in BHX the other day finalizing some small details,

x3 weekly, Tue, Thu, Sat arriving around 18:00 dep 20:15 local times

flight should be operating DEL-ATQ-BHX-ATQ-DEL with AI codeshare vv

Aircraft will be A343 which I think is currently with GF until end of OCT so expect a start date around 01Nov

Official announcement should be made in the next week or two.

Again until an official announcement has been made this can and most likely will change!
