I was just wondering what was done as far as improvements to ATL Hartsfield airport when the olympics came in 1996? Were there major terminal improvements done? much more parking? more gates and so on? Also was there a crush of extra flights from all over the world or did it pretty much run at normal holiday type levels?

Terminal T was built as the new International terminal before E was built a year or 2 ago. There was an influx of charter and international aircraft, just like there will be at the 2002 in SLC. Has anyone else noticed that Delta has had a hub at the last 2 Olympic sopts in the U.S.?? Orlando-Lakeland-Tampa is up for the 20** Summer Olympics when it comes back.

In addition:
the shopping area in the middle of the terminal was renovated and turned into a 3 story atrium. Likewise, the central areas on concourses A and B was also redone. Delta renovated its Crown Rooms and added at least 1 new one.

You are wrong. Concourse T has always existed but was converted into jetways in 1995. It has NEVER been used as an international terminal.
Concourse E has always been the international terminal. It was expanded between 1993-1995 to accomodate additional international gates. There have been no changes to concourse E in the last 5 years.
Please check your facts before spewing forth bullshit as gospel truth.

Well wishihadalife, such colorful language for such a sappy subject. I hope pride is not an issue for you, because there are about 4 of us in ATL right now erupting in laughter over your "gospel truth" remark. Believe it or not "T" was the original international terminal and E was built for the Olympics. So you might also want to look up your facts, and maybe apologize to the original reply.

Sorry wishihadalife, but they are right! T terminal was the old international concourse. Concourse E was opened in September 1994. Terminal T now is home for AA, UAL, and DL. Most of the ORD and LGA DL flights depart from these gates, which are T1-14 to be exact.
