I noticed in the BA magazine that this route has a BA codeshare in place, which is curious, does it date back to the DeutscheBA days when they had a hub at MUC?

the magazine is from what date?
I used the flight I think 3 years ago, and it had only the IB and the DI code, but now a days I think DI hast nothing to do with IB and BA...

it seems BA has code on the flight to sell tickets just for the bcn-muc or muc-bcn sector...

the same way as LH do for example on LHR-CDG (code on BMI flights)

These codes don't really feed into BA or LH long haul flights at MUC/BCN or CDG/LHR so their effect on ticket sales on other flights must be fairly minimal.

Both IB and BA are Oneworld partners, so it´s very likely to have codeshares on many routes, even if they don´t make much sense.

Exceptions confirm the rule.
